I'm plumbing illiterate. I can push the lever down and watch the water swirl but that's the extent of my plumbing skills. Been looking at the Kohler Cimmaron elongated with the 17 inch seat height. Remember the commercial? Guy looks out his window and sees that hottie plumber girl, then starts throwing his wife's cosmetics into the toilet in an effort to stop it up. Long story short, the Kohler swallowed everything. That's what I'm after. Power.

Surely there's some opinions on toilets around here. Let's hear em. I wanna trade in my clunker for something that PERFORMS! Thanks. :o

Just had my bathroom remodeled and had them install a Toto toilet. A little expensive, but works great!

Cadet 3 from American Standard. From someone who takes big dumps, trust me when I say that this toilet works very well. :)

Got a Jacuzzi from Lowes during a remodel last year. It'll flush a bucket of golf balls! No I have not literally tested that claim but does flush vigorously. Also, "dropping the kids off at the Jacuzzi" just sounds a little classier than dropping them off at the pool.:D

i have a 5 yr old kohler and imho it doesnt flush very well, ya gotta keep a plunger next to it lol, i have always thought there has to be something better..........

Most public toilets around here run on American Standard. Those things can seriously flush.

You might want to cut down on the bran flakes too:o

Kohler is an expensive brand. American Standard has a good history of functional quality, and replacement parts are available. Briggs is another good brand.

Stay away from lesser known brands as replacement parts may not be easily found. I worked in a large healthcare institution most of my life in the maintenance dept fixing the damned things, and parts for American Standard toilets that are 40 years old are interchangeable and found readily at plumbing shops.

Some of the lesser known brands and fancy european brands often are discontinued, and parts can be impossible to find.

I don't know anything about brands but definitely go for what my plumber calls "comfort height".

The American Standard Champion4 is $250-$270. The Kohler Cimarron Class Five is $200-$240 and the Class Six is $258 at Home Depot. I fail to see how Kohler is an expensive brand.

Like most high-efficient high-performing toilets, both the Kohler and American Standard use proprietary vertical flush towers. My local HD carries repair parts for the Kohler, but not the American Standard.

My recommendation is a Kohler Cimarron, either the Class Five at 1.6gpf or the Class Six with a better rim wash and 1.28gpf.

I'd definitely get one that is approved for a butfer. no question on that.

:thumbup:Got two Kohler Cimmarons A+++++ got 1 round bowl :thumbdn: comfort height:thumbup: and 1 CH Elongated bowl:thumbup::thumbup: NO PROBLEMS 3yr old new home and females (2) live here others in and out ALOT, no plunger "YET" if my women can't/haven't plugged em up I HIGHLY reccomend cause even the old high volume h2o's they plugged!!!

you might want to consider a toilet with the two flush option, half flush and full flush. it does save a fair bit on water in the long run.

My water saving 3 flush and plunge model was replaced with a Kohler Cimmaron comfort height elongated model.

If you choose a major name brand model, I think they will all generally perform similarly to each other.

Thanks much for all the input. It was a close race. Those jacuzzis that advertise the ability to flush a bucket of golf balls were interesting but in the end, they didn't win out. The Toto was way too pricey. I almost went with American Standard but I ended up going with the Kohler elongated. Love that seat height. I'm fairly happy with the power of the flush, though I think it COULD be a little more powerful. It is supposedly the maximum allowable by law (class six) but it doesn't have "jailhouse" flushing power. Also, I really wish I'd have known about the models with the "liquid" vs the "solids" flushing choice before I made my descision as I may have really factored that in. I mean, it only makes sense. If you're only flushing piss why waste a good flush? Save the power stroke for the floaters.

Oh well. My wife is happy and that makes the whole household a peaceful place. Now I have a great crapper and a satisfied wife. Whew! The weeks leading up to this toilet replacement were on the domestically "frosty" side.

Thanks again for the great advice guys. Bladeforums is a terrific place!
