Who has Served?

USN (Active Duty) 92 - 97
Aviation Electronics Technician, HSL-51, Atsugi, Japan for primary duty station, E-4

Army Reserve 99 - 02
Civil Affairs Specialist, never really deployed other than normal training as I was a full time college student at the time, E-5

I was in Army ROTC my freshman year in college (1983-84). Unfortunately I could not qualify physically for military service, or I would have joined the US Navy in 1987 in their Nuclear Propulsion Officer's Program. I've have my own boat by now! :D

Instead, I served two years in civilian government service (1989-91) with the US EPA as an environmental engineer and Superfund Project Manager. In that job, I faced dangers that few if any soldiers need fear: federal gov't lawyers (both in EPA and Dept. of Justice), angry citizens who were having their rights violated (by EPA) in ways that would make you cringe, employees of the state of California, and of course some of the "people" who worked for US EPA in the San Francisco (Region 9) office. <shudder>. I'd rather be in a knife fight with a bunkerful of Al Qaeda than be around most of those people and that job again!

The worst part was, it was long before they started giving everyone at EPA (and every other federal agency and adminstration) a badge and a gun!

USAF - '77 - '02
Scientist, Program Manager, Liaison Officer, Professor (Physics)

Travelled a great deal for professional reasons, throughout CONUS and also OCONUS. Can't go into details.

My wife is also a retired USAF officer.

Just a Post for a Brother that Fell this week in Iraq....David Freeman....He was in HQ company with me in Ft. Hood as a 11C, He reenlisted as an MP as I left. He was on his second tour there. I haven't recieved any details, I am waiting for the official details. My prayers go out to his wife and daughter.

I couldn't remember if I posted in this thread or not; search says no.

I was in the army (3rd Infantry Division, 1st of the 15th Infantry) from 1964 to 1967. Enlisted out of high school. Missed Vietnam entirely, through no clever planning of my own-Vietnam was just a rumor in '64.
Spent all three years in Germany, in a unit that was supposed to stop the Russkies from charging across the border....
I was a medic. Good side-I got to shoot nearly everything the army had at that time. "Hey Doc, you wanna shoot this?"
Bad side- I became a past master at treating blisters. Smelly feet....

Not sure if I posted in this either....

My thanks to all of you who have served and who protected my freedom.

I work in 29 Palms, CA, home of the world's largest Marine base. Obviously, a military community.

I can't tell you how many times I have pulled over to the side of the road to get out of my vehicle and wave to the guys returning home. It is so wonderful to see those white buses carrying our guys.

1968-1979 inactive reserve

I joined out of high school on my 18th birthday. In 1967 I got a nasty letter from the draft board threatening to send me to prison if I didn't register for the draft. I burned it. Never heard anything else. When I did register, I was 4A
