Who has the best Damascus

Mass produced probably going to have to go with Kershaw.

Small batch something like Lionsteel, Chris Reeves, and Mcusta also has some. There's dozens more.

To be perfectly honest all manufacturers seem to just buy the damascus bar stocks. Nothing custom about it.

Are you talking the knife makers finishing the damascus, or the original maker of the steel? My two favorite damascus blade finishers would be Todd Begg and Brian Tighe (but no, I don't have a damascus Bodega :(), they have amazing processes that leave beautiful finishes. Favorite damascus steel makers would have to be Chad Nichols and Devin Thomas.

bpeezer, I was originally talking about the makers but you got me interested in the finishers, too.

I've seen a ton of custom makers who do not finish Damascus like it should be....ie, rough finish, wire edges, bad etching etc..On that note, in my experience, Chris Reeve finishes his Damascus blades impeccably.

Two high end Damascus steel makers: Chad Nichols and Damasteel.

Devin Thomas, Rob Thomas, Chad Nichols and Damasteel all make exceptional quality Damascus. Daryl Meier is pretty much the innovator and originator of quality damascus for sale, going back to 1974. Jerry Rados makes some of the nicest turkish twist damascus available.

It turns out I'm quite partial to this Chad Nichols pattern:

I have 2 Boker folders with 320 layers of damascus that I think are much nicer than as far as looks and quality go than most damascus made today. Most of the cost of these

knives is in the blade. I didn't know much about knives when I bought these knives 5 + years ago.

He makes the 320 layer Damascus blades for Boker. The final finishing of the blade is done here in the USA but real quality work in done in Germany. It takes 18-24 hours

to make one of these blades.

Very little of this is true. I know Markus, he has not made damascus for Boker since 2007. He and Boker are NOT friends anymore. Boker Solingen knives are in no way finished in the USA, ALL work is done in Solingen Germany. The damascus that Markus made for Boker will be labeled: LEO Damast I, II, III, IV and V, Eurofighter. Leopard damascus made by Boker is NOT made by Markus.

Kris

Edit: Markus also forged the meteorite damascus for Boker in their 25 year anniversary of the annual damascus series.

Right after I made my post, I knew you'd be making a comment about my post. The knives I have are LEO Damast II or III. I'm not sure which.

I was thinking performance but I don't want to discount looks either.
