I have an old multi-tool I received from my in-laws many years ago, a Craftsman 45201 made in USA. Does anyone know who made this for Sears? Just curious is all, it's a nice one and I know Sears no longer carries them. Thanks for any information.

The Sears Craftsman 45201 was made by Bear MGC of Jacksonville, Alabama. It is a heavy duty electrician's multi tool. All of the Bear tools are very well made.

Bear MGC is now known as Bear & Son Cutlery. The Craftsman tool did not have locking blades, but he current 155EL version does. Unfortunately, it is not pictured on their website.

Jooliesews,

That's almost like mine. The only difference is the jaws on mine are like the Leatherman needle nose and the jaws pivot is not adjustable. Other than that, same-same. Thanks for the information! :)

Jooliesews,

Yes, that's the one I have in my hands right now, very similar anyhow, see it here. When you get to it, you should be able to click on it to enlarge it.

hi all, i just picked up a crescent toolzall pro that is identical to the others except mine has no awl but has a mariner shaped serrated blade and my pliers are also like the leatherman kind. so did bear also make for crescent as well???hi.

I'm guessing Bear made them for lots of different places. I kind of like mine, think I'll call Bear next week and see if any of the current blades, files, etc, will fit my older one. Might get some extras if they do and aren't too expensive.

Wow, and I thought the Crescent ToolZall Pro, Craftsman 45521, and Bear 155 tools were all identical. But you are right, the Crescent tool has a different set of blades. I had not noticed before.

As regards Bear Cutlery, they have indeed manufactured tools for a wide variety of companies. Besides Crescent and Sears, Bear multi tools were also stamped with Nicholson, Remington, Moore Maker, and L.L. Bean logos. Unlike the cheap Chinese junk that is flooding the market, the Bear tools have always been top quality, on a par with Leatherman or SOG. For some reason though, they never quite got the recognition they deserved.

I called Bear today, very nice people by the way. They told me that the new components would not fit my older Craftsman 45201 non-locking multi-tool. However, they said if I ever had something break or had any problems with it to send it in and they would see what they could do.

Doesn't really matter, I still really like it.

does any one know if the current electricians tool is the same as the one in the first pic?

The current Bear & Sons 155EL Electrician's Tool is almost the same as the one pictured above. It has the same wire-stripper plier jaws, and I believe the blades and tools are the same.

However, it is much improved with the addition of a locking mechanism for the blades. Outward appearances are virtually identical.
