Who makes BIG daggers?

I like the look of the Cold Steel Peacekeeper 1 (anyone know if they're still available in CarbonV?), although I'm really looking for something bigger.

Think "Peacekeeper + a few inches". The only thing I've been able to dig up so far is the Fallkniven MC1 but what I'm really looking for is something with a symmetric grip a la Gerber Mk2/Peacekeeper, and ideally slightly longer.

Thanks,

Dom

Sounds like you've been looking in the wrong places, man. Several reputable sword makers offer big daggers that should serve you well, though they are more traditional designs.

I'm too lazy to find links for ya, but here's some names to help with a google search. All Saints Blades (made by Angus Trim), Del Tin, Lutel, Kris Cutlery (lower prices)

These were made by Bill Siegle. I am sure that he can fix you up with whatever you are looking for.

Drop him a note. Here is his website:

The Cold Steel Tai Pan is a pretty nice fairly large dagger, and is worth a look.

hi folks, as part of his regular models ed kalfayan makes the longest, most sinister dagger i have ever seen..........no pix, but he's very accessable..........h

I have a Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works dagger with a ten inch blade. I'd rather the guard be a bit wider, but otherwise it is a great dagger.

Thanks for all the ideas, everybody.

n2s:

Is that an inch scale in the pictures? If so the dirk is the sort of size/profile that I'm looking for.

W.T.:

I like the MMHW dagger. Might be a bit heavy for my needs, though, 1/4" stock makes it sound like a bit of a chopper to me, how does it balance/move?

Also, the Smatchet looks like a big, heavy knife to me. Is it as blade heavy as it looks, or am I being fooled by its fat profile? The only one of these I've been able to find available is the Boker, what are the opinions of the "420 Solingen" steel used?

Hello Little Claw,

The Mineral Mountain dagger is the one MMHW knife I have owned that did not seem too heavy. I guess this is because it is ground down on both sides to make it double edged. To me it is reasonably light and well-balanced, for a knife with a ten inch blade. However, if you are looking for something really light, then you could probably find a dagger that is lighter. The MMHW dagger is very rugged and durable, though, and does not seem too heavy to me.

Have you checked Kris Cutlery's website? I believe they offer some long mideval style daggers. Their products are good quality.

If you are willing to go custom then I would have to say that the Jim Hammond Conqueror is one of the biggest/baddest daggers around! Seriously, I am a big knife lover and even I was shocked by the size of this one...5/16" thick (yup, over a quarter inch)..the handle is very wide and the whole knife is quite heavy...a beauty too :)

Kris Cutlery makes a "Maine Gauche" dagger with a 9 1/2 inch blade, which sells for $125. They have a reputation for very good quality for the price. Their dagger does have a large, mideval blade catcher guard, which some people don't like on a modern dagger.
