Who Makes Custom Balisongs?

I bought a beautiful balisong at a recent show from Paul Jarvis. Fred Perrin also makes them. Many makers are afraid to display them at shows due to legal issues. Benchmade makes a great factory made one. I also have several from the Philipines that are flimsier, but interesting.

His knives are fairly expensive, mostly in the 800-1200 range for a balisong type. But they are very ornate. Mine has a beautiful damascus blade and abalone handles with amethysts in the clip. He makes other types as well. (Sorry I don't have photos.) One thing to be careful of from any maker. I bought one from him and then realized that the "safe handle" was on the wrong side. I had to switch it for another one with a dagger blade and just dulled the other side of the blade.

Ken Largin of KELGIN had one in an old brochure.I know Walt Erikson uesd to make butterfly knives,I don't know if he still does.

Hi Donna,
Pauls work is usually breathtaking in every respect and he is a true gentleman.
You might want to touch base with Ralph Turnbull also. He has been known to make them too. Both will be at the Blade Show, if you want to wait and meet them.

Try John Salley fom Ohio. He used to get great write ups in "FIGHTIMG KNIVES" and he
did make Butterflies. I have a Salley stilletto which is really nice. His number is
513/698-4588.

From what i heard W. Erikson has retired from the knife business and Ken largin doesn't make butterfly knives no more which basically assures the collectibility of any balisongs of theirs you may find

Hey Donna, I thought of you on Friday. I was at the East Coast Custom Knife Show and Paul Jarvis had some beautiful balisongs on his table. However, his are more for show than for hard use. I didn't see any others there.
By the way, the show was great. I particularly enjoyed talking with Phill Hartsfield. Despite how some people feel, all his knives were gone about 15 minutes after the doors opened.

Wasn't Rick Hinderer going to make a run of custom balisong's.

Hey Chefget sounds like you and me were having the same kind of luck.I was lucky enough to find an ERICKSON at a knife show in Poughkeepsie,NY last week, with ats-34 blade bowie style and ironwood inserts. This is definetly a beauty and smooth!I paid $300.00 for it,so I can't complain

Sorry, I'm not technologically sophisticated enough yet for pics. I don't know if Jarvis has a website, but his phone is: (617)491-2900.
