Hi guys. I'm looking for a high-end custom sword cane maker. I don't know of any, so I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Burger sword canes, make some awesome pieces. I dont know the exact website name, but you can do a search on yahoo for them. :)

I once saw a swagger stick for sale at the Texas Renn Fest that was one of the neatest I've ever seen. It was like a sword cane in construction, but instead of a blade, there was an eighteen inch length of quarter inch cable concealed inside. It was bound with a brass ferrule to prevent unravelling. The guy explained that while sword canes are highly illegal in most places, there were no laws against cable canes. In hindsight, that seems a bit optimistic, but you gotta admit, beating on someone with a foot and a half of steel cable would certainly mess up their day. As I recall, they had several of them, including one that was more of a staff than a cane.
There were also a couple of more standard sword and dagger canes, but the cable ones were what caught my eye.

Swordcanes can be very cool, but they are also very illegal. If you are seriously considering carrying and using one, if caught with it just figure, "You're busted!"

As an alternative, for something just as cool and just as a effective, and legal you may want to consider a fuuko. This is a walking stick that has a minature hawkhead as the handle. Common in use in middle-Europe they are very pratical and easy to see how effective it could be as a weapon.

I don't see any listed on his website, but when I think of fuukos I think of Joe Szilaski.

Just got home from the Indianapolis Indy 1500 Gun and Knife Show.
W.C. (Bill) Johnson was helping out Troy Koval at their tables. Bill had a number of knives and 2 sword canes at the table...the workmanship, inovation, and quality of the sword canes was as exquisite as his knives!
very very WOW!
Bill's e-mail is wjohnson64@woh.rr.com

Hey JAlexander, you wouldn't have any contact info on the cable sticks would you?

also well there are alot of things illegal to carry you can often legaly own.
the "it's illegal" every few threads is annoying and should be kept in the legal forum.there are people from around the world & laws vary , so if you're not walking down the street with the guy don't worry about it.
this is not directed at anyone BUT everyone.
I just felt that it had to be said.

'Fraid not. It seems like they were located in Wimberly, Texas, and the name of the company was Wood Arms. I think. I did some web searching and found this contact info, but I don't know if it's any good.

I'm planning on using it, but I think in GA it will probably be OK with a CCW. Even without a CCW, I don't know if it would even be considered concealed.

I can assure you that it would be considered 'concealed'..........some jurisdictions might even go as far as to classify it as an 'assasination device'.........you sure don't want to find out the hard way.

Thanks for the advice guys! I got my Burger SwordCane a few weeks ago. It has perfect fit and finish. The blade is great, and the shaft pieces fit together seamlessly. I have been using it, and the cane is very sturdy. They even did some custom stuff on it for me. The blade is Damasteel, the shaft is carbon fiber, and the head is titanium with my name engraved into it. I am definitely going to buy more stuff from the Burgers. Here are some pictures I took of it last night. If you want to see why I need a cane when I am in my early twenties, check out these pictures (warning : graphic images).

Ouch!!! Am I allowed ask what happened? That Sword Cane is gorgeous, but be sure that a CCW does cover such things, and not just a firearm.

Wihtout a CCW I personally would not risk it.

Have you contacted the local authorities about the swordcane yet? Enquiring minds want to know what the interpetations of your state laws are as explained by local law enforcement.

That is a beautiful cane. I have handled that model in the plain
jane version, but with a similar cast bronze head. They are fantastically well made.

The Burger brothers make excellent products, I had a the pleasure of sitting next to Trevor Burger in Bern at the Swiss Show last month. He is a really nice man. As the sword canes are totally illegal in Switzerland, he only had knives at the show!

I have an example of a English manufactured sword cane with a twist release mechanism. The blade is marked 'Samuel Chambers' and was probably originally manufactured as a bayonet and later modified into a sword cane in the 19thC. I have also seen another good example of Italian manufacture which was probably also modified from another type of blade which suggests sword canes (in general) may have always been rather a custom made item. Since all mass produced examples I have seen are of the poor quality their low price would suggest and antiques rarely appear in auctions or sales (no doubt because of their illegality) I would suggest trying to persuade a good craftsman to make or modify an existing blade into the appropriate size and DIY the handle and cane in resin or laminate with a simple twist mechanism to lock handle/hilt to cane/scabbard. It is indeed unfortunate that walking canes are presently out of fashion. I have considered commissioning or making an sword-umbrella for contemporary use.
