I'm going to buy one in the next 3 days, so i would like to hear about, and see what you think is the best BK7 sheath being made today

I am open to leather or Kydex...

Azwelke or Godspeed for kydex
Skystorm or Nix (MyWifeThinksImCrazy) for leather.

All 4 are BF members and frequent the forum. Check out what they have and buy what you like the best. Can't go wrong with any of them. I doubt many here will say one is better than the other.

Get one of each ;) Kydex isn't that spendy, and that way you can decide what you want and sell the other. I am partial to kydex myself, but a nice leather sheath is sexy. From what I've seen, godspeed and azwelke make awesome kydex, and skystorm has got good hide. Whatever you decide to get, we need pics :D

Damn, soldmyhat beat me to the punch.

there will be pics... i've been trying to get a good pic of my convexing for the last 20 minutes and can't make one look decent :(

I am in love with my WorkSharp... a little white polishing compound and the 3000 grit belt make for a SCARY sharp edge

In all seriousness, I have always used kydex over leather mainly because of where I live and the damp environment. I do love leather for the summer months here... And I really do prefer it over kydex. Azwelke makes phenomenal kydex sheaths.... I have a few of his and really like them. I recently acquired a leather BK2 cross draw from Skystorm and really like it as I can carry my firearm strong side without any issues. You really can't go wrong with any of the makers on this forum as they all have loyal customers who dig their hard work.

I don't think Nick is doing any work at the moment because he's moving. (BTW...thanks for the liners Nick! I totally forgot about them!)

Don't forget to consider nylon. The Spec Ops Combat Master is great too.

Goose_52 makes awesome leather sheaths. Personally I love Combat Masters for 7" blades or shorter.

I have a kydex sheath from both axwelke and Godspeed!. Both are great sheaths. Check out my setup for my BK-9. I think I am going this route with my BK-7. Unless of course I buy something from Skystorm. Ha that didn't help at all did it?

I guess what I am trying to say is that they are all great sheath makers it just comes down to preference.

Here is the link.

I picked up a Spec Ops Combat Master for my BK7. Its a great, well built sheath, and so far, have really enjoyed it, but its still a sheath made to fit many knives, not form fitted to the BK7.
No matter how much bending and molding you do to the insert, I dont think it will ever be a nice, snug fit for any knife. I can see the value in picking up a custom made sheath from one of these kydex benders.
You dont think an insert could be custom made for the BK7 and tailored to fit the SpecOps sheath? That would be a great! Perhaps one of our local benders could answer that question?

The "Best" is pretty subjective and it really depends on what you want.

Good luck with your endeavors and show us what you end up with.

That guy. One of those up there is mine, and after I recover this stupid server RAID array, I'm heading to the woods and will finally have good pictures of the BK16 and my sweet GODSPEED sheath setup.

hey godspeed, about how much would you charge for one of the 2 knife sheaths? I really like that design.

Pm me with a price for it set up just like that (tube pins would be great if that's an option)

I hope resurrecting an old post is better than creating a new one with the same topice.

I, like many others, have been dissatisfied with the sheath that comes with the Becker BK-7, due to it's loose fit and rattling. Six years ago, I bought a Chestnut Ridge Kydex sheath for it and was also dissatisfied with it - my belt barely fits through the loop, it rides too high for a backpack, it's difficult to draw quietly and it's uncomfortable to sit while wearing.

I devised a way to hang the Kydex upside down from the right side of an Uncle Mike's vertical shoulder holster for a left-handed cross draw, but I couldn't figure out a way to angle the handle forward slightly, so it was hard to reach; I felt like I might slash my right thigh when drawing; and, though it was great for a right-handed reverse grip draw, the Kydex was rattling against the snap on the holster as well as the zipper of the pocket on the backpack hip strap - thus, defeating the whole purpose. Also, I decided a layered system would be preferable, anyway - with the blade on my hip, like normal, if I take the backpack off, I still have the revolver and blade; if I take the gun off, I still have the blade on my pants belt.

So, I went back to the original holster - which I like better anyway, other than the rattle - and attempted to fix it, using the vast wisdom of the internet. I tried a blow dryer, an iron and a pot of boiling water in order to squish that plastic insert into a better fit. The only result was the insert started to crack and the nylon began to wear and warp. I tried stuffing a strip of cardboard in there. At first I though, 'Great; problem solved; simple, free solution. I should've just done that in the first place.' Then I thought, 'What if it gets wet?' Regardless, after a few insertions and drawings, the cardboard became stuffed all the way in and it was in the way and I couldn't get it out. I tried pulling the plastic insert out, using two pairs of pliers. Nope.

At this point, my curiosity (and, perhaps, my frustration) got the better of me and I slit the nylon open to see what the hell was going on in there. I don't know if this is true on all of them, but on mine, the inserts are stitched in, so they don't come out without ruining the sheath.

So, now what? Do I buy the same dumb sheath for $18 and try to glue a piece of inner tube in there (more internet wisdom)? Do I spend $60 on the Spec Ops Combat Master when the reviews say a BK-7 doesn't fit snug in there without modification? Do I buy a leather sheath that costs twice as much as the knife and is going to suck if it gets wet? For now, I'm stuck with the Kydex and will have to remove it whenever I need to sit, and it's difficult to get on and off due to the loop being too small.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You could see if 710 (Julio) could fab something up in leather and kydex to fit your rig and your carry style...
He's s pretty creative guy, and has done some great stuff.

Hi,
We make kydex BK7 sheaths and we make drop loops and danglers.
You can see them at Azwelke.com

I went with the Combat Master for my BK7. It rattled at first, but I removed the liner and ran it under hot water from the sink for a few minutes and was able to mold it a little better to the blade. Is it as nice as a custom made sheath? No, but it does the job nicely!
The only issue I have with the Combat Master is the loose way it dangles from the belt. Not my favorite, but easy to get past.

How does this compare to the stock sheath? Just looking at pictures I don't see enough difference or improvement to justify the additional cost.

Thanks for your input.
