Why Are Koenig Knives So Expensive?

They catch my eye as well. The blade shape looks strong and functional. CRK of flippers seems like high praise. I’m interested to see if others draw the same comparisons.

They’re not a non profit, are they?

1. Build really nice knives.

2. ??????

3. Profit!!

I think Bill might have figured out that “charge a lot of $$$ for them” works pretty good for step 2.

Love my four Arii.

Dunno nothing about CRK, other than how unappealing they are. (ducks)

I had an early Gen that was well worth the $500 they were priced at.
It was too large and too nice for me to carry and use.
Since then, they have gotten fancier, with even smoother action, pricier — and hotter.

Expensive is relative. Is $500 expensive to a billionaire.. no... Probably not. They make extremely well made high quality blades out of premium materials. Instead of expensive, I'd say they are well priced (good value) given the manufacturing quality and materials used.

Expensive, yes for sure... you can buy a knife that cuts things and that is well made for less than $20

but they are worth the price.
Good material
Exceptionally well made
Great (I mean GREAT) action
Etc....

i have a mini goblin and I have been very impressed
It does everything I do with my Drop Gent that cost 5 time less but I can see where the difference in price goes and I am happy with the MG

Koenigs are much more of a Mid Tech than they are a production company. You want the quality materials, incredible action, top notch customer service and something made in the USA.... you are going to have to shell out some money for it.

CRK are some of the most well built production knives out there, no matter your personal views of them, that much is undeniable. So dont worry, its a pretty good sized compliment.

The materials, workmanship and most of all the action rival the expensive Shiros I've had and the Koenig cost less. I think the Arius is my favorite EDC, I paid over retail to get it and it is worth it.

Bill makes a fantastic knife and his attention to detail is up there with the best. As you can see from the Gen1 to Gen4 Arius, just keeps getting better.

I sold my Gen3 Arius with Blue Twill CF with Hand rubbed blade....and deeply regretted it a few weeks later. That was a year ago and was just Lucky enough to pick up another Blue Twill CF Arius in the Gen4, so I’m super stoked!

also picked up a regular Gen4 PJ Arius to edc, so I have 2 now and won’t ever sell these.

and I agree with the comment about the Shiro’s. Shiro’s are nice but my Arius is way better than my Shiro and a few $$$ hundred less. Plus it has a 3.5” blade so it’s legal in most states, where the Shiro is not legal in most, lol.

I think all in all the Koenig Arius is priced accordingly and fair.

I've never owned one but always lusted after a CF Arius.

Aren't they planning on releasing a "mini" version?

I got to fondle several of them at Bill's table last year. They do seem very well made, but I just wasn't impressed. I took the same money they were asking for the Arius' and went and bought a full custom Brad Zinker instead for around the same money and am well pleased. At the money these cost, I'd rather spend it with one of my preferred makers, no slight meant against those who enjoy them. Just didn't like the Arius at all. It felt like Instagram in my hand.

in early 1990's....I was at a knife show and still in my newb phase. Still learning.

I was impressed with a Loveless drop point. There were other stag drop point hunters at the show, but none looked as good or felt as good in my hand as the Loveless. When I asked the grungy looking gentleman at the table (who I did not know at the time was Bob Loveless) why this particular knife was so expensive compared to all the others at the show, he kindly pointed to it and said "because this one says 'Loveless' on it."

well...when you buy a knife that says "Koenig" on it, you can rest assured you are buying a superior product backed up by superior customer service in the USA. It's that simple.

and yes....I kick myself at least every week for NOT buying that Loveless stag drop point hunter from Bob himself - which at the time was $1500

I have handled a lot of Koenigs and have yet to encounter one with a fit and finish issue, their attention to detail and execution is top notch.

I have not handled one. His site says a decal is $10.00, and a handkerchief is as low as $30.00. Based on that logic, $500 - $whatever for one of the knives seems like a bargain.
