Why Buy A Buck Brahma?

I was looking at the Brahma and trying to justify a purchase when funding permits. It's not much of a hunting knife. Sure, it would be ok for butchering big game, but the Vanguard is about perfect, as an all-around hunting knife: gutting, skinning and butchering. The Selkirk is probably superior as a bushcraft knife. The camp knife, with the red blade, is probably superior for camping. What use would one have for what looks like a 119 on steroids? Well, if you're a man and like manly things, the Brahma is just about the coolest, macho-manly knife I've seen in a long time! Whip that baby out and your hunting buddies will hide! Let's face it, men are becoming so feminized, a macho knife is needed, more than any other knife, to correct the situation. When I get the money, I'm adding the Brahma to my collection. Any comments?

I'm not getting one right away, as I just bought another hunting knife, but I will end up with one. I'm so sick and tired of guys who watch Dancing With the Stars and are offended at the sight of something like a SAK Tinker, I'm gonna get this Buck and post it on Facebook, lol!

I like the Buck Brahma it has a stacked leather handle with a lanyard hole. The Vanguard to me is a gutting-- skinning knife. For quartering and processing I would choose a knife with more blade. Perhaps the 192 would work for a whitetail. So, a 119 with a that grind makes good sense for woods and camping use. Once I got the deer home I'd opt for a thin bladed 6" knife with comfortable handle. DM

Only thing better than a Brahma 119 is a 119 and a Brahma 106.

Need to get a new photo of these two with my new Brahma 117.

hammer, quit doing this to us. I wish the hatchet was more heavy duty. Are all 3 made of 5160 steel? DM

Yep, you can't beat leather grips! I'm going to darken mine a little when I get one.

Men will fear you, women will swoon.

The Brahma is as macho as it's name suggests! Get them all!

Figure the buck brahma is buck's revisionist retro styling of the generic k-bar.
What's there not to like?
The actual working end of any blade is all that matters.
The rest makes up the packaged selling points.
Go for it whist you still can.

Got out my 119 and 117. Leather shrunk a touch on the 117. Tightened it up a notch. Dyed and conditioned the handle.
Before and after. Awesome knives

They are made using 420 steel. DM

Yes, the Brahma series is in 420HC. The Compadre series is 5160. I think 5160 would might have been more appropriate, but I'm just happy to see this leather handled series and own one of each. They really are fantastic.

My only question is what's next?

Makael- Now that's what I'm talking about! The 117 would be a good choice for hunting.

With Buck's heat treat, I can find nothing wrong with 420HC. It's probably a better choice than 5160. For practical use, I'd put my two Bucks in 420HC up against most any steel. They can dull faster than other steels, but they sharpen up so quickly it just doesn't matter.

I think these knives would be better, and probably sell better, if they were made out of 50100B.

never had one of these models or seen one in the metal, how did you tighten up the shrunken leather washers? i'm assuming it's a pin setup through the tang post and the back plate?

thanks and nice job on the dye work. looks good.

jbm, they have a threaded tang with a nut which can be tightened. He probably gave it a soak with a leather conditioner then tightened the nut.
They look to have a blade coating but not the case. DM

No blade coating? Then what is it, a factory patina of some kind?
