Why do you like tip up carry?

Just curious. Tip down has always been easier for me so that's how I roll when I have a clipped knife. Is there something I'm missing about tip up carry?

For me tip up or down depends on the design of the knife

0350, PM2 are tip down for me, others are tip up

I like tip-down too but I think we're in the minority. Wave opening aside, which you prefer seems to do with how you grasp the knife in the pocket.

Doesn't matter to.me either way. My Emerson Mini CQC-15 and HK Axis are tip up only. My Spyderco Military and Police are tip down only.

I somehow manage to get any of them out and open to cut stuff.

im good either way.

i carry front pocket and the blade is against the edge of my pocket so weak detents arent a problem with opening in pocket. same applies with autos without safeties. bit of extra safety on pocket accidental opening.

also what CM and Deinos said.

+1 for wave opener, but also tip down is just an odd manual of arms.

I tried my PM2 tip down as that's how the clip came installed and it was annoying as you have to alter your grip to open it (pull it out with thumb and finger and then swing it into your palm). Tip up and the knife is right where it needs to be, wave opener or not.

Tip up... my work pants have deep pockets and I use lanyards. Even the lanyard gets lost in the pockets. So tip up clip for posistioning a lanyard for withdrawal.

Because I like having the blade opening being towards the back of my pocket, very little chance the blade will partially open in my pocket.

Exactly! I have never been accidentally cut/stuck when carrying tip up. I have been cut a few times tip down. I have a few knives that are tip down, don't mind it, but prefer tip up.

For me the natural feeling of tip up started with carrying a fixed blade. Its more of a handle down thing for me. I was very use to a fixed blade, drawing and sheathing it. I instinctively always want to pocket my folders tip up. Never could get used to my spyderco military.

With tip up, the knife is ready to roll with no additional positioning, etc. Reach in, pull out, flick open. Just got a PM2 that is tip down and it is driving me crazy. Need to pick up a smaller torx bit to rectify the situation :)

Have someone show you how to draw tip down and you'll find it is faster, especially with longer blades (not everybody cares for faster). I have long fingers but tip up still won't work for me on any knife with blade more than 3".

To the OP-
Wave openers and lanyards both require tip up to work. Tip up provides a safety advantage for some methods of carry, and beyond that not everybody carries right side front pocket.
