Hi Fellows,

I have found somes reads here and there about the Finland Company : DOWN UNDER KNIVES [Maker of the Crocodile Dundee OUTBACK & ECLIPSE knives] having been BANNED from BladeForums but i search and dont find WHY specifically.

Did somes members here remember this event and could explain why this happened ?

This came up googling down under knives blade forums

Originally, they were banned for spamming the forum with ads and fake reviews when the company was first starting out. Later they were cagey about where the knives were made, after some people had them break*, and that sorta sealed the deal for them.

*With the early production many were breaking at the screw that holds the pommel on, not sure if they fixed that.

What does this company have to with Finland? I haven´t found any connection. I´ve written about knives for Finnish gun magazines for 30+ years and have never even heard about the company.

The company handling them years ago was based in Finland, and for a period advertised them as made in Finland - https://www.knifecenter.com/item/XTDUKCD/down-under-knives-10-7-8-inch-bowie- Old KnifeCenter page.

Later as more people stopped believing that, they added that they were made in Asia.

Not sure what is up with the company now, this whole brouhaha happened almost 15 years back.

Edit - These guys were their first dealers - Teraasekeskus , they might know more on the company.

Nothing at all. Its just another Chinese company making claims to get you to buy something. Look on Ebay, there is a lot of crap made in Asia being peddled by sellers claiming to be in the UK, Norway, Sweden and just about every where else.

Looking at their website is like reading a Budk catalog.......That ought to tell you something.....

Did you have proof its a Chinese company ?
because one of the guys that filmed/edited & posted the promo video on youtube 14 years ago made it on his channel named : "another_finn"
Finn for Finnish/Finland.

I think the blade and sheath where made in Taiwan 14 years ago.
because i found a statement online saying the replacement MKII sheath (v2) was made in Taiwan 8 years ago.
[Taiwan is NOT China and always produced QUALITY blades compared to China produced ones , we talk 14-15 ago...]

Well Blade HQ lists THIS Down Under 440C blade as being made in Pakistan.
So does another knife seller.

I've seen others listed as being made in Taiwan, but the blade steel is listed as "440A"
So there's likely a fair amount of mystery left as to where each one is made.
At the prices they charge, I'd rather buy from another manufacturer. Then I would know for sure what I was getting.

If Esav said they were spamming the forum, then the matter is closed as far as I am concerned. He was the soul of these forums for many years and his word counts to me as the bottom line. He was here. We were not.

Inappropriate Content
I know/seen customers making statement/video that have received NEW "counterfeit" Outback knives that didn't had the original Down Under knives packaging/box/papers.
it seem the Pakistan Counterfeit ones made their way in the Blade HQ list ....!

I just got a super deal for the 440C outback for a N.O.S [Original with box/papers from Taiwan] (seller bought two , still use his and put the 2th for sell at half the original price) Real Bargain...just not received it yet.
I always wanted the Dundee Bowie without paying $300-$600-$1,300 for a custom.

Even if it only end as a wall/display movie props replica , i will have paid LESS than a United Cutlery/Master Cutlery First Blood Part II and it will be made more solid & beautiful.

I just wanted to understand what happened to this company that was Banned here and I will follow your advice about Esav and trust his word.
never the less , theses are fucking beautiful bowie from a beautiful now classic movie

Paul Hogan reveals what happened to infamous 'Dundee' knife

By Raffaella Ciccarelli |4 years ago

Deep within an undisclosed Australian bank sits "the most famous knife in the world".

Legendary Australian actor Paul Hogan this morning told Today the famous prop is sitting in a vault as he appeared on the show to talk about his new memoir "The Tap-dancing Knife Thrower: My Life Without the Boring Bits".
The knife Hogan is referring to was featured in the 1986 movie Crocodile Dundee.

Despite its fame, Hogan admitted he's considering selling the large Bowie knife.

"I have it in a vault. In a bank in Australia," Hogan told host Karl Stefanovic mysteriously.

"They told me it is the most famous knife in the world. It is the only knife that has ever had its own scene in a movie. And that scene has been shown millions of times all around the world.

"I might put it up for auction. I don't sit around looking at it."

While Dundee is arguably Hogan's most famous role, the 81-year-old said there was another big Hollywood film he turned down: Three Men and a Baby.

"I got offered lots of roles between like '86 and '90 when I was a star," Hogan said.

"I got countless offers, but none of them were funny. I was only interested in doing funny.

"I had sort of mentally retired a little bit. After I did the second one (Dundee), in which Australia called a flop, which did half a million or something, it was the second most successful Aussie movie of all time.

"Then I did a couple of my own that I sat down and wrote and of course they made money but they were flops by comparison and I realised everything I do after the first Croc will be a flop. So why bother?"
As he reflected on his life, the humble actor maintained that he has had a "ridiculous life".

"I have been so lucky, it filled a book. I can do another one," he said smiling.

I have a feeling the country of origin can't be nailed down because they likely use whoever is cheapest to make their knives.
if they are really made of 440C & 1095 (for the 'Eclipse') version they might not be as cheap.... would do the job for me.

Yeah, but if you can't even verify the country of origin, how do you expect to verify the steel is advertised, let alone given a proper heat treat.

I guess i will trust every owners experience with theses (at least the 440c) I only seen two broke on the whole worldwide web.
one from a guy that REALLY abused it for weeks/months non-stop
one from a moron that was throwing the knife that landed sideway/buttcap and bend the rat tail tang and forced to put it back and place and snap it...

all the others still use their on the wilderness from time to time without any problems!

EDIT : its a rat tail tang bowie , its a combat / average task knife , not an abraham tank ! for the price paid I will not complain

Welp, you know why they got banned by now. If you still want to trust a company that acts that shady then it's your money. Frankly, I wouldn't trust anything that comes from Down Under knives, but that's me.
