Why edit out sale prices in the exchange?

As a relative newbie to the forum, i have a question about the exchange.

Why is it that as soon as a funds clear in a sale, the seller erases the price?

You always see where a sold knife add goes something like:

"Hate to let this go, selling for funds. Super slicey knife with scratches. Asking SOLD"

I can't see a benefit to editing out the price, but I can see a benefit to others to leave it in. If I have, let's say, a BM Griptillian I want to sell, I'd love to look up recent sales and see what the going rate is so I can price fairly. As a buyer, I'd love to look up recent sale ads and make sure I'm getting a fair deal too. All in all, I'm not sure I understand it.

So the buyer can feel free to flip it later on for whatever price they want without having their purchase price hindering their own sale.

OP, you might want to use the search feature on this site. This is a topic that has been beaten to death.

i agree with the above post - the topic has been discussed a lot in the past. No one is under any obligation to erase the prices, nor are they obliged to leave them in place.

If you are worried about offering something for a fair price, I tend to see what the item auctions for on the bay and then offer it at ~10% discount here. If your item isn't so common, then feel free to offer it at the price you got it for or something higher and see what happens - if you get no takers, you are free to drop the price. For purchasing, if I am really worried about being scalped (not so very common on the BF exchange) then I'll observe the price of knives when they are listed. One can usually also drop the buyer or seller an e-mail and ask the selling price. *shrug*

This.... It's a courtesy to the buyer.

I know this has been argued before, but this is not a valid argument. If someone wants to purchase a knife, they will be willing to pay a particular price. Knowing that someone else purchased it for more or less than that makes no difference. Hiding the price is silly and pointless, although you can do it if you want to.

I am one of the guys who remove the price once I sell a knife and the simple answer is that after the sale the price is between me and the buyer. I may have sold the knife for the asking price or worked a deal with the buyer. I have also wondered what to price some of my knives at and 95% of the time if I PM the seller he will share his selling price in a private message.

Sometimes it's removed so fast you don't even know how much to pay the guy haha.

I can hammer as much as anybody...

I don't know what everybody is thinking about. Some seller remove the price just because everybody else does.

If a seller sold a knife for X dollars, then a week later they had another one and they wanted to sell it for more, they wouldn't want the past sales to limit their ability to sell for a higher price. If a seller leaves the price then other forum users can look at the prices in past posts and see what a knife should be worth. So leaving the price helps the buyers and enthusiasts. Removing the price helps the sellers and people that are out to make more money. Sellers on the forum are free to leave the prices or remove the prices. Everybody else is free to pick which side they are on.

And yes this subject comes up frequently in the forums.

I guess "silly and pointless" is a matter of opinion but I see it like this, once I sell a knife then what I was asking is no one's business anymore except mine and the buyers. I listed the price and I can remove it once the sale is made. It's my sale thread and as long as I'm following forum rules then I will do as I like.

Exactly... same with me. Other can leave the prices in if they want. To each their own.

Didn't realize this was such a beaten to death, dug up, revived, beaten, water boarded etc... topic.
My bad for not looking it up first. Should have searched.

Thanks to those who explained. Makes sense now.
