It's about time, SAK.:D

any SAKs with red cellidor and victorinox cross are considered macgyver commemorative edition hehehehe... (just kidding)

I think that would be a a great idea. MacGyver was quite a long time ago, but I'm sure its still remembered fondly by most Vic fans. It's coming up on its 30th anniversary soon.

You should send that suggestion to Victorinox!
Might even get you a free one for suggesting it.

There was apparently one done for the 100th episode:

As part of the 100th episode celebrations all cast and crew of MacGyver where issued with a specially printed 11 function Swiss Army Knife. Unfortunately the knife was actually an imitation model made by Barlow Knives and not a genuine Victorinox or Wenger Swiss Army knife.

Barlow Knives? Seems on odd choice.
Barlow Knives specialize in printing logos onto knives as corporate gifts, but I'm sure they could have gotten Vic to do, which would have been way more appropriate.

Well, they have to pay licensing fee to Paramount. Maybe that deters them.

Back to the main point of this discussion, why doesn't Vic issue a 30th anniversary edition? I'd by at least one just out of gratitude to the show.

In the show Mac used many different models from both Victorinox and Wenger. How would you choose?

I do think a Fieldmaster or a Huntsman would be a good choice though.

Email came back from Victorinox HQ:

Dear Mr Jay,

Thank you very much for your e-mail dated 3rd September 2011 and for your interest in our products. We greatly appreciate that you got in contact with Victorinox in order to share your ideas with us. Every comment is valuable for us and will be checked because this way we are able to optimize our product range and, moreover, satisfy our customer's needs.

Victorinox receives many e-mails, letter and phone calls from all over the world every week regarding new features and products. Therefore, we have established a catalogue for product innovations. We are glad to inform you that we have added your suggestion to this collection.

Unfortunately, there is no project for a MacGyver tool at the moment. The product concept of a “MacGyver Edition” was made some time ago but has not been followed up and made a decision yet because of trademark reasons and lack of interests.

In 2008 we produced a special Huntsman 1.3713 with the printed image “MacGyver” on the handles as a corporate gift for a German customer. They sold this tool together with a special DVD-box.

If there is any further information that you require do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,
Victorinox AG

Thats too bad, but then again I got into Vict's because of the Macgyver series. For years I and many others called sak's Mcgyver knives."lets see your Macgyver knife" To me, my Victorinox Super Tinker is my Macgyver knife. It would be cool if they released something but in my minds eye I already have a Macgyver knife.:D

I never saw the point as being that the knife that MacGyver had was the best one, more that he did have a SAK on hand and was therefore prepared for the tasks that he faced. Similarly when I leave the house I always have my Cybertool 34 in its pouch on my belt (right hip) and I too am prepared for what I come up against.

MacGyver was prepared, Boy Scouts have being prepared in their motto, but so many people just can't take the hint that being prepared is an important thing.

Don't worry about the SAK MacGyver used (he used a bunch of different ones anyway), just follow his example - carry a SAK and always be prepared.

indeed macguyver didn't appear with just a singular model.
this certainly leaves a lot more options open for any eventual future release.
which suits me just fine...
but never mind the knife;
figure that there's nothing like a brand new macguyver feature movie that could make just such a project possible.
well, if indiana jones and rambo could do it, so too could macguyver!

I read somewhere back when the show was still in first run that, in order to avoid having an identifiable knife, other than the generic term "Swiss Army Knife," the prop department actually disassembled several models and assembled their own custom knife for the show. Seems like a lot of trouble to go to to me, but it makes an interesting story, anyhow.

On a side note, it's a running joke among myself and several of my fellow multitool fans that, if Mac had switcher over to a Leatherman tool, the show never would have been canceled.

I have got to find one of these now!
