why haven't i seen a multi-tool with a high power flashlight as one of the tools?

Well, there are a couple Victorinox Models that include a not-so-high-power light. CRKT also makes a couple keychain tools with a built-in light, I think.

However, I'd rather not have the light integrated into my multi-tool. Imagine you have to do some fixing in the dark, you generally hold your light with one hand (or with your teeth ;)) and your tool with the other hand right? If they're both in the same package they'd be kind of hard to use.

What TKM said plus a truly "high powered" flashlight is going to be wider than most multi tool handle.

What TKM said. When you need your MT in the dark place It's a bummer to utilize both the light and a tool together.

I prefer having a seperate flashlight too. For convenience, but a flashlight also takes a lot of space, space that could be used for multiple useful tools. Not that a flashlight is not a useful tool, but I hope you understand what I mean.

Also, I think it would make multitools much more expensive if they had advanced electronics integrated. For example, where I live, the Huntsman Lite is about twice the price as the regular Huntsman, and it doesn't have a high power flashlight.

i don't see a high power light being useful especially with the extra weight of the batteries. But a little led that's rugged maybe useful. The problem is deciding which end you want the light to be pointing.

Give the multi tool companies time i'm sure one of them will manufacture a multi tool with a high power flash light some time.

i mean, it seems like it would be more useful than some stuff, am i just not seeing them?

Because this is a bad idea. It won't reduce the cost or the bulk of the light, but it will mean that you won't be able to use it easily to illuminate your use of the other tools. It has, to coin a phrase, "negative synergy."

Tie a decent keyring light like a Photon to your tool's lanyard and you won't have this problem.

Cause there are good multi tool companies and there are good flashlight companies but very few good companies that do both.

LM is gonna try but we'll see how it goes.

Long ago I ad something from Gerber called the Multi Lite or something. The LED light part could detach, and also had a small compartment for a pin, tweezers, etc.

Clever idea , but it sucked.

Gerber also had the Nautilus, which incorporated a light on the opposite site of the tools so, supposedly, you could light whatever you were cutting or fixing.

It's a gimmick I've seen on lots of off-brand/ re-brand MTs. The problem I see is that by the time you get the light in there, you've added a bunch of weight, lost a few tools, or made the whole thing much bigger. plus it's a cost factor, a high quality MT is pretty decently $$ as it is, and cost has won out over quality in many cases. just looking at some vintage tools compared to the fit and finish of newer ones, advances in manufacturing should make the new ones better, but instead they go for cheaper. Anywho, that's my opinion as to why, take it for what you paid for it. Personally, I would not bother to buy one as I generally need a MT or a flashlight, not both, and while I use my MT as a hammer, I wouldn't use a flashlight for that purpose.

The cabela's multi tool comes with a pretty bright Led. I actually have a couple and they aren't bad tools.
