I got to school in binghamton... and my usual stomping grounds are in the adk... does anyone know any places to take a weeklong primitive trip around letchworth/rochester... Im thinking state forest land? a place where no one will give me trouble/i don't have to pay to just camp.

Not to get too off topic but Binghamton is a long way from Letchworth/Rochester. Wouldn't you be better off looking for an area in the finger lakes or Catskills?

This may be a bit farther away, but when I lived in Buffalo, I used to love Rock City state forest down near Salamanca.

Closer to you (a little) is the Finger Lakes Trail, which is an AT-style backpacking trail with lean-to's every so often. I used to camp at this cools spot near Watkins Glen, where the trail crosses a dirt road. There's even a nice waterfall right there!

well yeah its far from binghamton...but ive been too all the good spots around here and in ithaca, and i was really hoping to check out letchworth for 2 days then head into some real woods for a primitive trip.

There are a few places not far from Rochester. One is in the Naples area it is Hi-Tor, another is not from from Dansville it is Rattle Snake hill (rightly named there are rattle snakes in the area) There is one just outside of Warsaw actually in Dale it is Carlton Hill, then is also one near Shortract called English hill. The only thing I am not sure of is actually camping there you would have to check the regulations of these areas. I think there are more but these are what I came up with off the top of my head.
