In the spirit of keeping the USA economy and the tradition of Halloween up and running, I offer the following contest:

Get out your best/finest custom or production knife/knives. Carve up a pumpkin to the finest Jack-O-Lantern you can. Post a picture. (If you can't figure how to post a picture, email me one and I will post it for you.) Winner will win $50 cash from me (In Memory of my my grandfather... who taught me to carve a pumpkin!) (That should more than cover your cost for the pumpkin...!)

Contest closes at midnight on 11-10-01.

I am going to ask Tom Mayo and Jerry Hossom, and the moderators of this forum (Spark and davidb415) to do the judging. (If any of them object, I will pick other judges...)

Simple enough??? Let's see what you can do with a knife!!!!

I carved one this year. First one in years. It has the Browning logo on it and I entered it in the "Show me your Buckmark" contest. Whatcha think?

...But did you use a Mayo TNT to carve it C4? :p

I used a Randall #10-5 Saltwater Fisherman for mine, and took it to work today...

I won two prizes with it...

The first was 3rd place and movie tickets with popcorn and fountain drinks for two, for the carving...

The second prize was for best team spirit...(I carved my division's initials instead of a scary face....) That was worth a coffee mug full of good munchies!

Someone remarked that it wasn't scary...someone else remarked that it was scary that someone would take the time to do "That!"...lol

It musta been good enough, the "kids" stole it off the balcony already...

Being that I used a non-custom knife, i.e., a Randall...I guess I'm not going to win the $50..."sob"

Melvin,

Post a pic!!!

No limits on the kind of knife: Custom or production... or nameless from the kitchen drawer! No stinking rules here...

As it stands, you have a 50/50 chance at $50! (My picture is not an entry...)

Let's see what you carved!

Michael

Now just how in the heck am I going to post a pic of a pumpkin that was stolen off my balcony?

I imagine I could go take a digital picture of all the pumpkins smashed on the road next to the Apt's, pick one, and "tell" you what it looked like...lol

Thanks buddy, but I might get hit by a fast moving car...and that would be a crying shame...

Pumpkins will be REAL CHEAP in the morning!!! Carve a new one!!! You still have a 50/50 chance!!!

(I find it real hard to believe that so few BFC members actually carve a pumpkin for Halloween. WTF do you all do with your knives on 10-31????):( :(

Oh, BTW, I used a Spyderco Delica (serrated). Excellent tool might I add for pumpkin carving.

Here are some that I did this afternoon. Tried to get the best photos possible and still show shading.

Used Henkels Pro Series tomato knife, jig saw blade mounted in handle, X-acto knife, various carving tools.

Wow!!

I like em all so far, but I am still surprised at how few BFC members actually carve pumpkins...!!!:(

One thing I found out last night: They are not real easy to photograph....

Keep them coming!

Thanks,
Michael

NOTE: The knife pictured in the first pic was NOT present while kids were around. I thought it would be better that i not have a sharp instrument that kids could get their hands on.

MAURICE,

What did you use to carve your pumpkins with? What kind of blade is that sticking out of the "skull"?!!

As far as "judging" goes, I have Tom Mayo and Jerry Hossem on board. (Never heard back from the moderators of this forum who I asked to participate...) What should I do? Do I need to pick another judge (Tom and Jerry rarely agree:) ) or do we let them battle it out? Suggestions are welcome...

Thanks,
Michael

I used sharpzu. Its the rip off of Ginsu, if you can believe it.
It actually worked pretty well in this instance. Very thin and flexible (read breakable) blade, fully serrated.

The knife sticking out of the pumpkins head is a Raker Joeker,by Ray kirk. Forged 52100 blade, canvas tan micarta scales, and sharper than anything.

My little brother cut 2 fingers severely with it,slicing almost to the bone, requiring several stiches....very sharp knife.

MAURICE,

I hope that blood on the pumpkin is not from your little brother...!!!

5 days left to post your best carving!!!!
