windmill delta lighters

Im sure there refillable , why the hell wouldn't they be? who in there right mind would pay 50$ for a one time use lighter?

I've got a couple. Love them. They can be a bit finicky when you first fill them to where you have to adjust the flame level down a smidge. Other than that, I use mine daily, and love it.

The Brunton Helios has the same lighter core, just a different body style. I prefer the Windmill because I think the rubberized body is more reliable (read breakproof) than the largely plastic bodied Brunton.

Don't get me wrong, I dig the looks of the Helios, but think (MHO) the Delta is a bit more durable.

Check Ebay for the occasional deal on these. My first came fom there for $28.

oh yeah :)
i've always wanted one of these
very nice to play with

thatmguy, how did you refill it? using normal lighter fluid?
will check out ebay, thanks a bunch ;)

You refill with butane, preferably the triple refined stuff so the nozzle doesn't clog.

I have a black delta and it's fun to play with.

I'd really like to get one of those pocket blow torches though. Now those look like FUN! :D

Edit: I meant butane! Sorry for the confusion! :(

Just to aviod confussion windmills burn butane not "lighter fluid"

they burn butane, which is the pressurized gas you buy in the can and fill it with, not lightfluid, which is a liquid like that used in zippo lighters.

DEA take it from me that these buggers are,

1. Butane fill ... easy to get them in pressurise cans (very common in Singapore/Malaysia)
2. Fun to play with and worth the money ... paid RM170 for mine (you do the math in conversion)
3. Hell durable ...and water proof

Sorry for the confusion.

Banshee and Rycen nailed it.

I wasn't aware butane was triple-refined, so I don't understand that post.

I've been using Zeus brand, and no problems.

thanks to everyone who replied, and especially so to banshee :) for confirming the availability of refills in my parts

Has anyone tried the Colibri submersible? That one also looks nice--I'm wondering if anyone has experience with it.

I got a windmill lighter for Christmas a few years ago. I refilled it once. I went to use it about 2 months later and the butane had leaked out. Not a good thing to have happen if you are in a survival situation. I was VERY disappointed.

Anytime DEA ..... btw they do sell a nice selection of Colibri Lighters in Raffels ... not too sure if the Windmill Delta are avalible ... got mine from Cyprus.

Wow, I'd be disappointed too. Maybe you got a defective one? I don't use my Windmill much (not a smoker), and mine sits unused for months at a time before I'll take it out to use. No disappearing butane here.

got a as new whinhill delta in smoke green,in box with paperwork if some one wants one e-mail me wi'll work something out

The WM Delta has one slight design flaw. Only had mine for about a week before I managed to melt the plastic roller on the lid retainer. Of course, I had a few in me at the time and wasn't paying attention. Still, the placement of the latch is such that unless you lift your index finger and let it drop underneath, it tends to follow as you choke up to press the igniter.

It still works fine, the roller is just a bit lumpy now :)

Thinking about getting a Brunton, since it doesn't have this problem, though it doesn't look to have quite as rugged a body.

I just sold my Brunton Helios, having zero use for a lighter. It certainly doesn't leak butane. I doubt a Windmill normally does, either. The Brunton is a lot more durable than it may look, and it's easy to grip. All those complicated surfaces, compared to the sleeker Windmill, actually make it easy to hold on to. It also has a little window on the side so you can see how much butane is left in it.
