Hi every one. I’m new to these forums, and it’s going to be my first review of a knife so please forgive me if I miss anything.

First of I’d like to give everyone a bit of my background.
I live and work all around Mexico, I was born in Tijuana Mexico, and raised by my family in San Diego, California for most of my childhood, when I was of age I joined the Mexican military service wear I spent 5 year working all over Mexico fighting in the drug war that to this day is still going strong. Some time ago the federal government sent a lot of military officers like me, to form and supervise regional operational groups all over the country in more of a police role. Fighting the cartels, anti kidnapping operations and some executive protection operations, are what I have been doing recently. Most of the trying we get is from foreign military, like the Israeli military and of course the US military and Navy. It is on one of my trips to the US that I got to learn from some very great people from the Navy, one of them carried o version of the knife that I will now review.

Winkler Knives II Belt Knife.
The specs are:
Over All Length:.....9"
Blade Length:........ 4 3/4"
Steel:....... 3/16" steel is 5160 with a no-glare finish

The knife is very beautiful, and simple. The Caswell finish on it is very nice and it has held the edge on it for the few weeks I have been using it. I use it mostly as a utility knife and back up weapon should the need arise. I have tested it on a Second Chance IIIA body armor vest, it penetrated all the way trough (something that I always look for in a knife)

The sheath system is made to be held on your belt by tightened the screws on it to fasten in on, I find this time consuming, soy a added two strips of nylon, to use as belt loops, they work very well an make taking the sheath of and on a lot faster. The leather on the sheath is very nice. All and all a very durable sheath.

Mr. Winkler really makes very good tools and this knife is a perfect all around knife for the work I do.

Welcome to the forums!!

Good review. Mr. Winkler does in deed bo some great work. 5160 is a great steel, takes a good edge, holds it well, and resharpens easily. Tough as nails so it makes a great work blade.

That knife has a very good design for a good variety of tasks. I'm sure it will serve you well. Take care of yourself. Things seem to be a bit hairy down there these days.

Thank you Wildmike, things are very bad all over the country right now, but there are a lot of people down here that are fighting to good fight.
Stay safe.

I love that hawk... expensive pieces there from what I understand. I love the fact that they are your users!

That’s a short version of the Sayoc Winkler Hawk, It is expensive, but I can tell you that its worth every penny. I bought it at the Costa Mesa Blade Show, directly from Mr. Winkler. I carry the hawk on my riffle plate carrier. The knife is on my belt on my left side all day.

Thanks for posting the review and pics. I've got my eye on a Winkler II Belt Knife and this is helping me make my decision.

Good luck to you in your career.

I live a couple hours from Daniel. I've been to his forge on several occasions. He's an excellent craftsman, and a true master smith. His work can most famously be seen in Last of the Mohicans, including hawks, knives, and war-clubs.

Thanks for the review. Your comments about the sheath are interesting. I find a bladetech tek-lok to be an excellent device for quick attachment.
