Got my WinterBlade Factor in yesterday. So far the knife seems cool, though I don’t think it’s for me. Hasn’t seen any pocket time and I doubt I will carry it at all.

Love the action and the *ting* when it locks up. The lock stick isn’t as bad as I was expecting and it’s wearing in nice (the designer said there would be stick at first).

The locking mechanism is nice, feels odd to me. Kinda feels like a crossbar lock, but smoother. The strangest part to me is having CF on the clip side and TI on the show side. Feels backwards, right handed left hand format, if that makes sense.

Overall is super nice and I can definitely see more innovative and successful designs coming in the future from WinterBlade!

Let me know if you have any questions that I could answer about the knife!

I think it's a cool innovation. I'm looking forward to what the designer comes up with next. I didn't grab one because I think he will make some improvements on the next ones and maybe play with materials.

Yo, first time seeing someone younger than me (1997, by one year) on the forums! What's up youngin!

It looks like a really unique lock, plus an axis lock, what is that, man? Looks intriguing at the least! :)

It says it's a "slicey" blade so don't cut what?
“…
DO NOT USE THE
BLADE TO PRY THINGS OPEN, ETC”

I believe that page is on their website. I attached a picture but probably hard to read.

What’s going on man! Is one sided. Basically push the lock down with your thumb(right hand). Feels odd because it’s lower

The innovation here is what it's all about. Massive respect on that front. What kept me from jumping on board was the thought of a knife that every other metal thing in my pocket was going to stick to.
That was a little worry of mine. Doesn’t really seem to be an issue on lighter days.

It's kind of neat that they re-invented the wheel...

...But is there a need for this kind of "complexity"?

For the most part I agree. There really isn’t a need for the complexity, but that’s what makes it better in my opinion! For regular EDC light tasks it will do just as well as any other knife.

I wouldn’t expect to anyone to go chop down a tree with it or for it to be a “bugout” knife. But non the less i think it’s a great idea and it’s exciting to see new things come around!

As a band named after a type of very spicy vermillion fruit once quipped "If you have to ask, you'll never know.."

Call me funky, but yes, absolutely necessary if variety is indeed the spice of life. Why would I spend dollars to see a movie that I could watch on TV? Why go to a fine restaurant when you can just stick something in the microwave? Why go to the park and fly a kite, when you can just pop a pill?

How DARE you, sir?

I’m still pretty enthused about the Factor, but didn’t get in on Batch 1. I had no intention—ever—on spending that kind of money for a knife, but could not resist putting in an order for Batch 2, just because it’s a “first of its kind,” and I’m just a wonk about innovative things. Unfortunately it won’t be out for several months ☹️.

And yeah, I can see potential issues with the magnets sticking to things—could be some funny stories out of this. OTOH, you can hang it on your refrigerator when not in use. LOL.

With such a big slot on the back and wide handle profile, is it comfortable to hold?
It could use the back button to open, crossbar lock style disengage to close, seems like the magnet detent instead of a spring detent gives it smoother action than the crossbar lock, that's a lot of engineering made it into this knife.
Innovative, but from my observation, a little bit over the top. Even if I have my hand on it, too many moving parts for my liking. The back button to engage the blade seems redundant as the blade can be open super smoothly with a flick, the button is far back into the handle, so one might need to repositioning their hand after pressing it to actually use the knife, which is heh in my opinion. That back button makes it an automatic, therefore a big no no in Canada. Distinctive looking still.

I'm a 1997 representative as well.
