I agree, 3/16", while looking cool, is unnecessary. I don't know if you've seen the knife in the Shop Talk section that's taking me forever to hand-sand, but it's 3/16" D2 and it's way too thick for the the knife. I'm not using 3/16" or D2 for a long, long time.
 
More Micarta, but ... I love this bushbeater style the more I do it. It's not ever been my choise for carry, but... they grow on you :D

Gaucho style knife. 1/4 on the tang, distal taper from the hilt forward, works down to 1/8 nearer the tip. 5160, jatoba scales. Blade is 8.5 inches on a 13.5 inch knife. Full convex grind with swedge.

And that sheath? dude!
