So I decided I love my knives more and more every day, and I own a shop with any tool I need to do this why not try my hand at making a custom wood scale for my 0562.

I'll update after I try the scale on the knife!

Very nice work, I am jealous because I own ZERO tools, and I am making scales for my Buck 112.

Barely done with one side, carved with Mora, and Swiss Champ.
took me all day to get to this point.
I shaped it, now to start thinning it, this is horrible.

Props to you my friend. I have a cabinet shop so I get the privilege of needing all these tools. Ha. If it weren't for having them I probably wouldn't try making my own scales.

That looks pretty good, especially for a first attempt:thumbup:

My first (and only, thus far) attempt at scales was approached with only a dremel, sandpaper, and a cordless drill. Made for a Southard. It came out ok...

I too, had a problem aligning the holes; as you can tell in the photo (excuse the sebenza, it's an old comparison pic).

I really appreciate it! That's really impressive with only a Dremel, cordless and sandpaper!

I know there has to be a better way to align the holes so I'll work on figuring a better way to get that done and see how the second set comes!

And I notice you on a lot of threads. You have an awesome collection!

Thanks for the kind words Brother!

I'm eager to see what comes next, perhaps you'll start making us scales? :D

Damn, nice work folks! Remember, the key to carving or sculpting is "If you are sculpting an elephant, Just chip away everything that doesn’t look like an elephant."

All these pictures look sweet. Hay rappy give us a picture of the final product im interested to see the completed scales.

Keep it up guys, all looks great:thumbup:

Wow nice work! Those are beautiful. I have quite a few pieces of Ipe (brazilian walnut) leftover from building a deck, and have been wanting to find a use for the scraps. I may have to try making some scales for my 0560. If anyone is interested I could ship out some scraps to make scales out of. I have probably 50+ 3/4" thick X 5.5" wide X 5-6" long.

And thanks everyone for the good words! Makes me really appreciate this forum!
Now as far as making scales to sale.... I'm nowhere near that point yet. I have some things I need to tweak and better before I'm completely happy with the scales.

Thanks though!

Thanks! The 562 is amazing. I have the 561 and was hesitant about getting the 562 but I am sooo glad I did.
I bought one and had to return it because I needed the cash for tires. Watched the Exchange for a used one and picked one up for a great price! Had it since November and have a hard imagining ever getting rid of it.

Nice! Hard to beat a good piece of wood on looks. Here's one I did with some particularly beautiful spalted maple.

That's extremely nice! And I agree, I was looking for a custom scale that I really liked but I just couldn't find one for the 562 ( with the exception of your Ti. Liner deletes) so I remembered where I had some nice oak and cedar laying around and decided to give it a shot!
