This is a little off topic, but my father does wood working and I've talked him into makeing a machinist tool box for me out of red oak. If I can find a set of plans. I plan to use the box to store some of my knives, and a couple of other valubles in the house.

I realy like the basic desighn, but all I've been able to find comercialy is either plywood or paste board.

Any idea where I can get some detailed plans?

Thanks

Rocklers Woodworking Catalog has plans and some necessary hardware. Not sure if they have a web site, I just get the catalog.

i'm sketchy on details, but i think fine woodworking or taunton press publish a book called "the toolbox book" or something like that...i haven't seen it, but if it's anything like "the workbench book" or "the workshop book", you'll probably find some really great ideas and plans in there...nice stuff, i'm sure...

Thanks, I think I've found what I've been looking for, now if I can just convince him to make two, one for the house, and one to use inthe shop!

Yeah Will, can't get too much of a good thing! :D Please ask him to send one my way too! Or I'll just have to settle for a cheapie from Travers tool.

I knew it was in the shop somewhere :)
The Toolbox Book by Jim Tolpin. ISBN 1-56158-092-9.
Great reference book.

Thanks guys!

I wouldn't think a simple box with a couple of drawers would be that hard to make, he makes it sound like brain surgery!

Of course he thinks makeing a simple drop point should be easy too!:D

I borrow The Toolbox Book from our local library from time to time. It's worth a gander just for the eye candy alone!

Thanks, didn't think it had been that long ago, where's the time go?

Got a nice one in pecan he built. May have to try to get him to build anouther.

Hey Will,

Just knew you were lurking around somewhere.

Get him to do the Hetzel plan, the drawers can be altered in a way where it could have five long drawers instead of the smaller divided drawers, that would be 10 feet of drawer space. Do you think that would be enough space to house your collection?

It`s a non till type and would allow another chest to be stacked on top. However ,you may have to get a search warrent to find a paticular knife.
