You could easily make it yourself with some swiss army blankets, for example...

edit: just to clarify: without a vacuum press, it is easily done once you found the right amount of epoxy needed to saturate the wool...until then it's a big, messy job with some of trial and error.

I have done homemade micarta with cotton fleece and stuff like that before. Haven't tried wool yet! Wool will soak up a lot of epoxy. When I did the fleece, there wasn't as much texture to the finished handle compared to linen/denim/canvas and has a smoother overall look to it. I did blues, white and some black for a water camo pattern and it came out well, but compressed a lot due to the space in the fabric itself.

Horsewright got started many years ago making wool vests. Our name was originally Horsewright Clothing and Tack Co. Nowadays just Horsewright as we no longer make any clothing items.

We originally employed a seamstress but gradually my wife learned how to make them and a review by Sporting Classics magazine said that she made the "finest handmade wool vest on the planet, period."

We also made wildrags, the silk scarves that cowboys wear. You really didn't think we would call them scarves did ya? They're wildrags! This was the second item we started making. Anyhoo what set ours apart (there are a lot of wildrag makers out there), was the silk that we used.

Point of all this is we use to have a lot of scraps. There was a local guy that made some really good mycarta. Real good stuff. So we had him make some not only out of wool but out of silk too. We also had him build quite a bit out of our old Wranglers. The guy broke the Cowboy Code so we would no longer do business with him and he's since passed away. Point is it can be done and with good results. Long time ago though.

Great looking clothing! It looks like you guys were making some quality products.

The last part really peaked my interest though. what did that guy do to break the code?

"Haircarta" should basically be the equivalent of horn-if all the strands run the same direction.
