I've had the WSKTSKO for a while now and I saw these leather strop belts on Amazon and I said "why not".

Anyone have any experience with these?
First question I have is; will I need to remove the angle guide and use the same side (edge trailing) of the Work Sharp for both sides of the edge?
I guess this is where the blade grinding attachment might come in handy, but I don't have that.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I saw those... don't have one, but yes, you would have to use 'edge trailing'... and probably without the guide.

They've been discontinued by work sharp for the blade grinder and replaced with linen belts...they were having issues of them breaking easily or were burning up the motor

But you only want to use it edge trailing...and don't know how well it'll work...work sharp only made it for the blade grinder bc the ability to adjust tension since it'll stretch.

Thus far, it seems like the compound ( I added my own ) is really building up in the middle. It's slightly raised or elevated where it's darker. You can feel it with your finger when you run it over the belt.
It's doing a great job with 1 micron diamond paste, but I feel like it's mostly only contacting the blade on the dark part, the rest is kinda wasted...??

I've been using the leather belt on my ken onion for 3 months or so. I just use the white compound that came with the belt and have had fantastic results. I will usually make a pass on both sides of the blade using some pressure, then a pass on both sides of the blade using very light pressure. Gets em razor sharp and is great for touching up a blade that has had some use.

Mine does the same thing and you really only use the center of the belt. Makes it hard to get all of the blade if you have a thumbstud. I haven't had to clean my belt yet. They say you can use an old belt and just hold it lightly on the leather as its spinning for cleaning.

Couldn't you angle the blade slightly in or out to so that it made contact with more of the belt?

I think what's causing it is the lip on the main powered roller on the WSKO. It has almost like an o-ring around it and that is what's causing that one portion to be higher, because that's how it rolls over that wheel. Probably just a design feature that never factors in when using the factory belts, but obviously can effect aftermarket belts this way. I'm still pretty pleased with the results I'm getting, but in the future, I'll probably just stick the the factory belts or some of the silicon carbide aftermarket belts and do the stropping the old fashioned way.
1000 grit and then a few slow passes on the strop with 1 micron paste gets my edges shaving sharp

It is an 'O' ring... and you can remove it to see if there's a difference. (But the other wheels have a crown in them... so probably not). (p.s. It will work without the 'O' ring.)

Forgive me, but when you say "crown", you mean...? I'll look into taking that o-ring off when I get home tonight...

The other wheels are raised in the middle. (Probably another word for it that I can't think of right now). :)

That's what I figured you meant, but if they are, it's just the slope of the wheel itself, Vs an actual o-ring poking up, so hopefully it won't effect the belt as much.
Didn't have time last night, will check on it tonight.

It's basically like a little rubberband sitting in a groove. Just grab it with your fingers and roll it toward the edge.

Yes, I did try that. :p thank you
I will try harder when I have more than 30sec to look at it.

Got it off (was in there pretty good), and yeah, I shoulda done that from the start. Probably would have avoided that raised strip in the middle.
But other than that, the belt is broken in and it's working great.
