Worksharp Precision and small blades?

Stumbled across the Worksharp Precision Elite yesterday, and it looks like the first sharpening kit that might be a fit for this extreme novice (I have a DMT kit I never had luck with and a Lansky set I haven't motivated myself to try). The Worksharp appears to address all the issues I've had.

But I read it doesn't work well on small blades... and I'm not sure how small that means. Would I be able to sharpen a Baby Banter and/or MKM Mikro?

I know the new Pro kit fixes this, but its way pricier than what I need.

Thanks for any help!

I have the work Sharp sharpening guided system with the three stones. The stone seem to wear out pretty fast. Plus on a small blade the guide rod will hit the clamp before you can even sharpen a small knife. Overall I'm not very excited about this sharpening system. But it does a better job than I can free hand. But no I'm not a very big fan.

I would stick to the standard Work Sharp Precision Adjust kit, not the Elite, and then upgrade it with the Gritomatic aftermarket options. This will enable it to do expand its options to do much more, including smaller blade sharpening.

Gritomatic sells the Leading Edge universal or core upgrades (magnetic platform) which will allow sharpening of endless blade shapes and sizes that doesn't always work in the original clamp. With this platform, you can also sharpen scissors with the scissors clamp. Gritomatic also stock the Leading Edge aftermarket stone holder options for any 4 or 6 inch stones, and they have the original Leading Edge V-block clamp support which makes it rock solid.

You can upgrade as much or as little as you personally want or need. If you go with all the upgrades, it will allow you to do much more than even the new Professional Precision Adjust model can do.

Yeah thinking it will definitely be better than I can do with hand as well, and probably Lansky/DMT. They both have just enough play in the guides that I think I still bugger it up, this one seems to have less room for human error.

Hadn't heard of Gritomatic, thanks!

Gritomatic is by far the best spot online for anything to do with sharpening, and they are a great USA company to deal with - based just north of Atlanta, GA.

I agree, the leading edge magnetic platform for the TSPROF K03 is great for small knives. (think, Victorinox, folders)
The magnets hold the blade firmly to the platform.

The clamp that comes with the Worksharp is designed like the KME. (not good for very small blades)

Hope this helps.

I bought an aftermarket magnetic holder off Etsy and it works great. Since it's magnetic, there's nothing on top of the blade to get in the way, so it's perfect for small blades, or to get really low angles.

The Leading Edge adapters (scissors clamp, large blade magnetic platform, chisel clamp etc.) are completely interchangeable between the Leading Edge standalone system and all the Leading Edge core upgrade platforms too.

This means that if you have a Leading Edge platform for the Work Sharp Precision Adjust, and later you want to get yourself a Leading Edge platform for another system (Like TSProf K03, KME, Edge Pro, TSProf Pioneer, Lansky etc.) then most of your adapters & accessories are interchangeable between the systems.
