Worksharp is coming out with the RMX knife on 06 June. It looks interesting with Magnesium handles and changeable operation modes. However it has not seemed to get much attention on here or maybe I am looking in the wrong place. In anycase, what do yall think of it? I did not see a price listed.

Magnesium handles. So it's a combination knife and fire starter?

Aside from the fire thing, magnesium is HIGHLY corrosion prone and forms a very dissimilar galvanic couple with stainless steel and bronze. Magnesium is even significantly dissimilar to aluminum. That's why it's not used much in aerospace anymore. Got tried. The industry said a hard NOPE, and moved on. My company was one of the ones who tried it and moved on.

Hard pass from me on that one.

I saw Outdoors55's video on it and it looks like a nice knife with good grind and heat-treat from what he says. I think the changeable operation from manual to auto is a nifty feature, though it doesn't tickle my fancy.

The magnesium handle is interesting for sure, apparently it's a special alloy made by Worksharp themselves and some workers have been carrying theirs for a long time without any signs of corrosion. They also say that you can't start a fire with it, but only time and experience from customers will tell. Won't be getting one though, next knife will be a Spyderco Bodacious or Skrama 240 :)

Back in the early 2000's, there was a Smith and Wesson tactical folder called the HRT that had magnesium handle scales. Not sure what alloy it was or how well it held up though.

I had one. Decent knife....Crap steel. Handle was light n comfy though.......B i L used it to jump his toasted.starter....... Lotsa arc.chunks.Missing from the blade after that......🙄

I don't think the magnesium is really an issue either way. Personally based on the comments made on this thread it was a marketing blunder to advertise the magnesium alloy, as most people will not know much about magnesium and those that do will recall its ignitability and reactivity. In the case of this knife and this particular alloy I do not think those issues will be a problem, but it will automatically turn off a percentage of the buying public.
