World's biggest knife collector is selling almost everything.

Ah if only he were donating these knives.

However, I've met people before with large knife collections, and they aren't always great knives. One of my ex-wife's father's friends had over 400 fixed blades. All garbage type stuff you'd get at a flea market. It was quite disappointing. Frost and United Cutlery, Pakistani pot metal, etc. 25 Rambo knives is not a good collection IMO.

There are definitely people that have larger collections, they just don't show them off all at once so that their wives do not kill them...

Only 2,100 knives? That's the record? Did they even ask anyone here?

Yeah, I thought that was a low # too but just using an average price of about $200-250/knife (assuming that the knives are of that "quality"or better on average) the collection should still be "worth" around $500k, which is still nothing to sneeze at.

Calavaras County is just a short drive from my location. Sent an email to them asking what the viewing location/times prior to the sale will be. Oct 13th is my b-day so, depending on what's available, I could be buying a lot of extra 72nd b-day gifts for myself there. ;)

For those of you who've never heard of Calavaras County, it was made FAMOUS by Mark Twain who wrote about a "Jumping Frog Contest" held in Angels Camp (an old mining town in the foothills of the Sierras) located in Calavaras County, CA.

Twain 1st published his article/short short or essay (depending on what you want to cal it) in 1865. The contest has been held annually in Angels Camp (not sure about 2020-2021) since 1928. It's been a HUGE $maker for the town/county ever since.

The next "contest" will be held in May 2022. Look it up. :)

“I plan to sell all but about 100 custom or special knives,” Mercado tells us. “Since setting the world record 5 years ago I’ve acquired more knives and some of these may also go for sale.” Custom and production knives will be available; when we asked Mercado what some of the knives were he gave us this short sample list: “Benchmade, Buck, Medford Knives, Custom Knife Factory, Microtech, Marfione Custom, Olamic Cutlery, Reate Knives, RPW, Yellowhorse, Victorinox, Spyderco, Kershaw, SOG, RAT Worx, Boker, Brous Blades, Chris Reeve, DPX Gear, Quartermaster, Extrema Ratio, Fox, Gerber, Guardian Tactical, HTM, Kizer Cutlery, Ontario, TOPS, Stedemon, ProTech, and We Knife.” Said by seller himself.

This list checks A LOT of boxes for me, as it probably will for many others.

There's a gas station and convenience store on I-44 just West of Lebanon MO. They've got a butler building that's maybe 75' x 200' full of junky stuff from who knows where.

The billboards proudly advertise "World's Largest Gift Store!"

I find 2175 knives to be a world record somewhat questionable. Of course people with more may simply not have applied to Guiness.
