Would like to “hand sand” with my sawzall...input appreciated

I know it can be done since I’ve read about it somewhere, along time ago, but whenever I search I get hits on making knife blades from old sawzall blades. Can someone please point me in the right direction so that I can use my variable speed sawzall to help with the hand sanding? Thanks much.

Why not just buy an orbital sander, instead of trying to adapt a huge tool to do delicate hand work?

Or, get a hand held inline/stroke sander. Most are air powered and used in the auto body repair business.

I’d need to scrape off the Velcro pad so I can cut out and use my own sand paper, but I found this.

Or oscillating tool? Their wedge shape may work better with detail?

I rather sand on the belt grinder to 800 grit then take it to hand sanding.

Minutes on the grinder will save you hours of hand sanding.

Those things might work for the job.
Just be aware they take alot of air. Minimum, around 3hp worth of air at 90psi.

I remember seeing a video like that. If I was going to build one I think I would use a windshield wiper motor off an old truck

as simple as that thing looks, you could probably rig up something similar or better, using a reciprocating saw blade, and some scrap metal. Especially if you had a mig welder.

Before you spend any time or money on building some sort of jury-rig contraption, you should upgrade your grinder to VS. That will solve a lot of your sanding/grinding woes.

Do yourself a BIG favor and install a VS to that grinder. If money is no object, the use the 27D drive, but if there's a cheap budget involved, spend $250 for Ironhorse motor and a Chinese VFD NEMA 1 and add a filter over the air inlets. Regardless which way you go, you'll be amazed at the difference a VS grinder will make in ALL your knife work.
