Would the Tarani Karambit trainer make a good non-lethal striking tool ?

I am famailiar with Mr.Kelly Wordans Impact Karambit , but I already own a Tarani aluminum model , so....

I've played around with the idea of using the trainer as a non-lethal striking tool and gotten mixed messages when striking boxing bags , what do you guys and gals think ?

While we're on the subject of fighting the trainer , what about using it for grappling ?

I've searched the forums , but haven't found any real answer on this subject .

Thanks

It can be, but I was always afraid of tools with rings like the Impact Karambit and Ti-Bot because of the chance of your finger getting ripped off.

Go Figure,,, Thousands of Travel Wrench and Impact kerambits sold and not one reports of fingers being ripped off,,, gee, but it would probably look really cool for a stunt shot from the martial arts action movie "1000 Deaths of the Vampire Ninja's" :jerkit: I better put a disclaimer on the package right away... oooooooooooooohhhhhhh?
Heck, someone may grab it from 'yer hand and just snap 'yer finger right off, happened to my Cousin's brother's sister's close friends brother and he was a street fighter from New York City,,,, really! Technical reviews can be so informative on forums....

But seriously, just let a friend or family member hit you half as hard as you are trying to hit a heavy bag with Tarani's trainer or a Travel Wrench and see if you are still standing, Impact weapons for self defense are suppose to offer enough time to escape a conflict not beat someone to death, a Glock is much quicker if that's the goal.

Mr. Worden , I'm surprised to see a reply from you , pleasantly surprised , but surprised none the less.

I should have explained that I've caught some flak on another SD related board when I brought this topic up . Thanks for clarifying

P.S. I do carry a Glock . lol Thanks again

I've sold dozens of Kelly Worden's "Travel Wrenches" and have received nothing but praise for it's design and quality.

In fact, I cannot recommend it highly enough!!!!!

Of all the "tools" that I can carry. The travel wrench is the one I don't leave home without.

Hello AK74Auto, Ray, and others,,

Yes I stop in from time to time,, I have heard all the weird little stories about impact weapons and the Travel Wrench Kerambit hole,,, mostly weird twists on putting you're finger into any hole will get it broke.

Like I mentioned, literally thousands of T/W, commercially they have been produced since 1997 so maybe that's a hell of a lot of Thousands,,,

Still, I have yet to have someone call me up or e-mail me and say they got their finger broke by someone jerking the tool from their grip, that being said, I gotta wonder about the validity of all the chatter on forum from the "experts" with nothing but pissing and moaning about the T/W as a self defense tool.

I do get lot's of e-mail and personal calls to thank me for creating the tool and making it available.

Nothing is perfect and I could find something wrong with any product produced in almost any industry. Bottom line, the Travel Wrench and training method offers options, trains the individual to hopefully realize any object can be implemented as a self defense weapon. I even tell people not to rely on any one object, train smart and be aware of all you're options.

Cool Breeze,
Have a Happy New Year and everyone even Tiny Tim,,,
Please stay safe!

I had not heard of anyone having concerns over their finger being ripped off while using a karambit , and in all honesty , that is the very least of my concerns if things go that far. ;)

Thank you Kelly and Ray , I appreciate your answers .

I have thought about this before. I think it would be effective, actually...I have no doubt it would be effective.

However, I have a small problem in theory with using the Tarani Karambit trainer as a "non-lethal" striking tool: it looks just like the real thing. In other words, it looks just like a karambit.

This could lead to serious problems IMO. Misidentification as an actual knife could mean other folks (police as well as citizens) around you percieving a unnecessary and drastic increase in the force you are using. This may, in turn, provoke increased force in response to the percieved threat.

Hi Joseph,

I've seen a lot of bruises inflicted by a Kerambit trainer. The way a
kerambit is held in the hand makes for a good solid grip and therefore
a
great impact weapon. Anything harder than bone with a little weight
behind
it is always a great impact weapon.

I always recomend using what you are most comfortable with. Since I
spend a
lot of time with the kerambit, the thought had ocurred to me to use it
as a
non-leathal weapon. It works just as well as a kubaton for presure
points,
and the ring has the same effect as brass knuckles.

Feel free to post my reply. Can you let me know which SD boards?

Happy Holidays,

Ray

I recently read a Karambit article featuring Ray Dionaldo , that coupled with a few other discussions has caused me to rethink my Tarani ACD / trainer again. I was carrying the trainer for awhile , but after striking boxing bags and various dummies with mixed , and sometimes painful results , plus catching some serious flak on another SD board for even carrying it , I shelved my trainer.

I haven't decided absolutely whether I'm going to start carrying it again or not , there are a few other striking tools out there with their own merits that I like as well.

Mr. Wordens Travel Wrenches have a big following up here in Canada.
I ain't never heard of anyone getting their fingers busted.

One aspect of these Karambits that I find a little funny is that most people
think you HAVE TO stick you finger in them. Who says you HAVE TO?

I find that you can do all you need to do WITHOUT inserting your finger in the hole.

Just food for thought.

I've carried the DTL and the Tarani trainer as well as my own Model 8 trainers before when I knew a knife was a serious legal issue.

As for their usefulness ABSOLUTELY useful. They are good light and fast fist loads and a fat ring around your index finger only adds impact penetration and damage to your opponent.

Of course the hook adds some more techniques to your striking arsenal.

But ultimatell it's a great Gunting (Destruction) tool. You'ld pound your opponents attempts at striking you and keep them from continuing to do so with his original ferocity.

As well in a clinch the Index finger ring and your thumb work wonders for pinches, pulls, and wrenching and breaking of didgits.

Probably no one knows that better then Datu Kelly Worden.

Ditto on the effectiveness of these trainers. I have the Tarani trainer which I use a lot in training. Independent of the live blade it is a wonderful option for S.D. needs.

Yeah, I used to cary a Spyderco trainer in my pocket for 2 reasons:
Convenience of training
Less than lethal, yet very effective force to be reckoned with.
