Would there be any interest in a Mini 940/940-1?

Concept compared to a current 940-1 and a 527

Edit. This is not a knock on the 940. I have one and love it however no design is perfect for everything. In my opinion, doing a mini series of the 940 has some benefits.

That's a maybe from me. I think the 940 is as slim and small as it should be . I think any smaller and it would be like the Benchmite. I do like the Benchmite though and other mini's. I wouldn't hate a 3 finger 940 but for the most part it would be a keychain knife for me. Some guys carry that small of a blade on them always though so sure it would appeal to someone.

I think the size of 940 is ideal. What's the reason of having a mini version?

Well from a business stand point I guess it would be to capitalize on the mini blade sales. For me personally, I feel the blade length of the current 940 a bit too long to be useful in most daily (city living) EDC tasks. I also find the blade a bit unnerving to others for a simple pocket knife. The blade length of the mini presidio and the mini barrage are perfect as to not intimidate people but those 2 knives don't share the same benefits of the 940 IE. super light weight, slim carry. Therefore I believe a mini 940 would blend the best of both worlds.

Would be interesting to see for sure. I wouldn't be interested enough to actually buy one. I own a 943 and find it small and ample for basic cutting needs. As far as the blade being unnerving, that is something you cannot control (other people's reactions to your tools). I've had first hand experience in office environments where even a keychain sized Victorinox is received with gasps. THis kind of ignorance is not easily repairable, if at all. Yet, if you look around long enough, you can see people cutting open boxes and other things with scissors (while cutting towards their mid section).

^^ Haha ya I agree. But to use a more illustrated example, there is a definite difference between pulling out a zt0562 and a Victorinox Classic. I find there is a healthy medium and that happens to be the 3 inch blades currently featured on many of Benchmade current edc knives. Just an idea.

I completely agree. So I take it you've seen the crazy lady in an office killing boxes and making messes while grunting? ;)
To be completely honest, I have always loved the MiniGrip, with it's bright colors. It's a great shape, and size, very comfy and carries well. That modified drop point blade style Benchmade has is always a winner on just about any knife they put it on.

I think the 943 is a little short. I would like to see a maxi 940/943.

I don't see much of a market for a mini version of the 940. In my mind, the current 940/943 models are already slim enough.

I don't envision it being slimmer, just shorter. Benchmade has so much going for it with their other 3 inch edc's why not take one of their most iconic designs and expand on it? I could also see a larger version being successful.

Oh, I think I got the strategy! Start carrying smaller version of 940 in the office. Then when everybody is used to it switch mini version to the same but original one. Nice :)

I'm not sure you could just shrink the design without modifying it. The shape of the handle would likely have to be altered to support the smaller size, and you'd have a new design.
>Maybe check out the 707.

Hmmm... I don't really see it being any different than doing mini versions of at least a half dozen of their other designs including griptilian, presidio, barrage, bone collector, striker, etc....

Don't get me wrong; the concept is appealing. I suppose I consider it to already be about the perfect size for a knife that is portable but also versatile.

Isn't 4" 940 would be 710? At least to me it blurs the product identity there. I love my 950 and to me that is heavy duty version of 940.

I don't see much merit in shorting 940. It make it uneasy for me to handle such shorter blade as I use for thrust cuts, due to Osborne Tanto. 94X is the shortest blade I carry for BKC.

I think Mini-Griptilian, mini-presidio, and 470 can fill that role if one can't carry due to city-ordinances for 3" limit.

I think the 940 is already a very size efficient design. It packs a good sized blade in a very sleek and compact package. I'd never say no to new variations of any knife, but I already love the 940 as is. I'd sooner see a mini version of the 761. Anyone who feels the 940 is too big for them should take a look at the 707 or 705.
