Would You Buy An Opinel Fixed Blade?

What if Opinel made a full tang or probably a full length stick tang fixed blade with the same comfy handles, same blade shape and thickness and grind and everything? Pretty much just an opinel that is fixed with maybe a little leather friction fit sheath. Wouldn't that be awesome? It would probably be my new favorite knife. I love carrying fixed blades but I also love the Opinel design. I currently carry an Izula and an Opinel No. 7 and it works out fine but an Opinel fixed blade would just be the perfect all rounder except for chopping. They would come in every size the normal Opinel folders come in except fixed. I'd buy at least 12.

What do you guys think?

I expressed the same wish some time ago.
Personally, I assume they would eat quite a share of the market.
I even thought about getting one of their kitchen knives and modding it :D

Great idea. I would buy one depending on the blade length. Something around 3" would be perfect.

I would definitely buy a few. Then I would lose one, mod one and have to buy replacements. This would continue until my better half yelled at me...so perhaps it's for the best that Opinel do not offer fixed blades ;)

Exactly! I am thinking about buying a paring knife if it comes in carbon steel and trying to make a leather sheath for it but that would look like I carry around paring knives! I want a dedicated Opinel fixed blade now!

Right? So you would get probably an Opinel No. 6 fixed blade. I personally would love to get a No.7, No.8, No.9, No.10, and No.12 in a fixed blade. I would buy so many it would make my head spin. Opinel needs to do this. We should make a petition using bladeforums and get this babies made.

I hope Opinel sees this post and acts! Do you know how many bushcrafters, hunters, and general knife guys would buy these?

Opie paring knives

If you feel like putting the slabs on, a Green River blade is a thin carbon steel comparable to an Opie. I love them. I think they might be a little better than Opinel carbon.

This is where I would love one of the forum's experts in different steels to weigh in.

Putting slabs on can be as easy or elaborate as you want. A paracord wrap or wood slabs pinned on with epoxy and nail pins could be pretty easy.

I've tried to "mass produce" a few because people love them for kitchen knives. I wish they made more stainless so I could make them for less "knife educated" people. (they make one in stainless) I do like the carbon

This one was around $10 6 months ago.

Yeah, I'd give one a shot. I like carrying a modest size sheath knife when I go woods walking or canoeing, and I do love the way my Opinel's cut. I've never been without an Opinel since I discover them in 1982, so if I could try out a sheath knife version of my old number 8, heck yeah. I'd want it in their stainless too, not the carbon.

Look at the Classic Mora 2/0! It was what I saw when you guys were describing the Opie fixed blade you want. Carbon steel blade, just under 3 inches...stick tang....great little knife!

Here is the Classic # 2/0 in carbon with discontinued Orig Classic 2/0 in laminated carbon below it.

Absolutly! Id buy every size it would look good next to all the folders.

I forgot to add a pic of the No. 8 Opie and the Mora 2/0 for size comparison.

Btw, I love Opies too so I'd be in for a fixed blade...just because.

I like Mora's, but personally I prefer the Opinel blade for small wood processing and such.
I might be wrong, but I think Opinel is trying to approach the whole outdoors market in the "wrong" way (with the synthetic handled folder) instead of invading the fixed blade world. At least, this is my opinion as a buyer :)

Well put. I agree.

Yes I love the Mora 2/0 and really want to buy one but the only thing is the sheath. Those weird plastic sheaths kinda piss me off. I wish they came in a leather sheath. I'd pay an extra $10-$20 for leather.

Look at the Sharpshooter sheaths for a 3" blade.

Here is the one I use with my Mora #2

I would pass. I'm happy with my Mora Companion for utility work. If I wanted an Opinel fixed blade I would just open my #9 and epoxy the lock ring in place.
