XDS 9 & 45 recall

Thanks for the heads-up. Looks like it is for nearly every .45 model to date. :( Mine is certainly within the range, having bought it about a year ago.

Yeah, I got the email.

They say there has been no misfires resulting from the "problem" which makes me wonder how they know a "problem" exists. Weird...

.

The Shield also has a "recall"

Kind of makes me smile. Don't want anyone getting hurt, but for the past year all I've heard people ask was well do you have a XDs or do you have a Shield. Got really annoying, guess I won't have to hear that often for a few months hopefully :)

Sorry about the aggravation with the Springfields. Trade it for a Glock 30S, and you'll never regret it. And, yes..., I have owned both and fired both extensively. I STILL own the 30S:).

^^^^^^^^^ Yeah I hear ya. Glocks are fantastic with reliability, I just wish they were a bit more ergonomic. I owed a 30 but it was just soooooo blocky and thick for a 'compact' pistol. Sold it to a friend. He still has it and loves it... Ergos are very personal thing.

This brings up a thought. Before you sell a weapon be kind enough to research if there any recalls on it. Take care of it then sell it. It's just looking out for your fellow man. Same thing if you are buying a firearm. This I consider a responsible owner practice.

Yes and no, if it's a simple "recall", then I personally don't care. Like the XDs thing. It was probably 1 failure on 200,000 guns and maybe that ammo manuf. used light primers for that batch.

Ruger wanting customers to send in their pre transfer bar revolvers so they could install a transfer bar, the ones not sent in are actually collectible and go for more.

Firearms and recalls are weird, that's pretty much it. That being said, if you've ever sold old ammo, have you ever researched your lot number to see if the manuf. had a recall on it?

If you think that's bad, all compact Caracals have been recalled, and there is no way for the company to fix them. I don't own one, but I'm sure somebody does........

Wow, knew of the recall but didn't know they couldn't fix the issue. That sucks

Yeah, it does. This appears to be an expansion of their last recall, which involved slides with faulty heat treatments. There are multiple threads on a Pakistani shooting forum about incidents involving a major failure of the slide. In the pictures I saw, the slide appeared to have cracked in half in the middle and the barrel was bent. One thread had pictures of a guy that was hit with a piece of the broken slide. Needless to say, he was banged up pretty good. I'm not sure if it's against the forum rules to link to the website, so I won't, but a search on Google for "Caracal C catastrophic failure" should come up with something.

Just another piece of junk coming off the assembly line. These manufacturers have brass ones to put these guns out to the public before adequate testing. I waited a year to buy a
Beretta Nano, to be sure the "kinks" were worked out. After two returns to Beretta for failures to fire, feed, eject, and double feeding, etc, they saw they had a problem, and they bought the gun back from me. These makers must feel it is cheaper to push these guns out there to the public before long term testing, and pay for return repairs, then to have to hire and pay guys to field test their weapons properly. They don't care that a Cop or Civilian may have to defend himself with the pistol, and not have it go bang when they pull the trigger. I bet gun makers figure In to each guns MSRP a $100 or more, to cover possible liability lawsuit claims against them with the sale of their guns. I like small pocket guns, but can't find to many that work. I have a Glock 26 that's a keeper, and a Micro Desert Eagle that's been really good to me so far. I'm going back to a revolver with my next purchase.

I've got an XDS 45 that's on the list. I sent SA a pointed email yesterday and basically told them I was interested in a buy back not a recall and that I'm getting rid of my SA loaded 1911 and won't be looking at the XDM anymore. I told them to call me at there earliest convenience. Waiting to hear from them. I'm beyond ticked off. Plan to buy a pocket revolver this weekend.

Why are you that hell bent on getting rid of your Springfields now? Recalls happen.

Every vehicle manuf. out there has recalls and safety updates on vehicles, it's normal, it's inconvineint, but normal.

T/C has had at least 2 recalls on the Ventures, Ruger had a recall on the LC9s because they had a bad batch of firing pins that got too hard during heat treat, and obviously Smith has recalls. Hell Kimber dissowned their external extractor 1911 and replace your slide for free if you have one because they were known to be turds and they're aware of it, and Kimber had issues out of their polymer custom.

Ammo manuf. have recalls as well, Remington, Hornady, etc. Does that mean you're not going to buy any of those brands of ammo?

Guns are guns, they're pieces of machinery made by man, they're not magical pieces of metal. Sometimes sh*t just happens, parts break, parts get a bad heat treat.

Live with the burden, move on.

Give it to them Greg. They are not easy about giving your money back. Let us know how you make out. TAC

Yeah I'm with mark on this one. I've got 400 rds though my XDs 45 with zero problems and I'll send it to them to fix just to be on the save side. But I'd never expect them to buy it back because of a recall and wouldn't sell it back either because it a kickass little gun and a blast to shoot.

I also think some of you are being a bit ridiculous. Anytime you have a machine designed by people, made up of many parts working together, you're going to have unexpected problems. Anyone who works in any kind of manufacturing industry understands this. People can't always think of every single problem that might occur with a certain design. I work in aerospace, which just multiplies this 100 times over, and things still don't always go to plan. We're not perfect, that's all there is to it.

Anyone who thinks Springfield would negligently put out tens of thousands copies of a particular design that was flawed really has no idea what they're talking about. Just think about the cost to them to make this recall. If anything, owning up to something like this and ponying up to fix it without any cost to the owner speaks more to me than the recall itself.

My XD-s .45 has over 800 rounds through it of 5 or 6 kinds of ammo, and it has been flawless for me. I've carefully inspected mine, and after that and meticulously looking at the parts diagram, I'm pretty sure I see why they've been recalled. My thinking is that this is a CYA recall, as the shipping/repair work on the ones they get back will likely cost less than a multi-million dollar lawsuit. I, for one, won't be sending mine back in just yet, as I suspect they'll modify the s/n range after looking at some of the returns.

"Springfield Armory® is initiating this voluntary safety recall to upgrade 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols with new components, which eliminate the possibility of a potentially dangerous condition. We want to emphasize that no injuries have been reported to date.

Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur."

My question for Springfield is this... Is there a way to guarantee that my pistol will "experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once"?

Because that would be awesome.

:D

Lol yeah double tap would be quite interesting in a compact .45 but a misfire from jacking the slide ehhhh not so much. I haven't sent mine back yet either. I was waiting to hear some feedback on ones that had been sent back and fixed first to see what people had to say about'm. Any body else wana chim in on the round count on there's?
