So I went to the beach this past week. On the way back we stopped at an antique mall. I like to check them out for old tools, axes, knives, etc.

I stumbled onto this knife that was mixed in with some old tools. It was marked $1.95 so I figured why not.

I thought it was interesting. It's marked "Japan" and "Stainless Steel" on one side and "Floating Fishing Knife" on the other. I haven't tested it to see if it actually floats though, lol.

After some research it appears that they are pretty common. Many were marked with companies names and given out as SWAG. I'm gonna clean up the wood, re-polyurethane it, sharpen it, and toss it in the tackle box.

Just thought I'd share.

And sorry for the crappy pic....wasn't even a cell phone this time but they came out crappy.

Good find! I picked up a Colonial cork handled floating knife for a buck a few years back.

I inherited the exact same knife from my dad, who carried it in his tackle box. They're quite handy. Good find and a great deal.

I used to have one quite similar, but with light colored wood -- it had a fake hamon etched into the blade, and I thought it was utter junk to begin with, but it was a pretty decent knife astonishingly - sharpened up very well.

Yep, there was always one of those around if we were fishing from a boat.

I have my great grandfathers. These are really neat knives. I remember him preppin fish with them when I was a boy. I look at to this day and smile! It rides in my tackel box!

Neat.
This discussion gives me an idea of what to do with all the wine corks I have sitting in a drawer....

Kool find.
I used to have one also, mine was marked off for measuring fish.
HMMM, i wonder where that went? i may have to dig around and look, never know what I will find...
