I was wondering if anybody else happened to see the two newest knives on the Blackhawk site? Unfortunately, Blackhawk's site doesn't have any info (specs) other than pictures for any of the folders on there.

Here's the Yojimbo (Hybrid) style knife they're calling the "Be-Wharned" (nice one, Mike J.;):D):

And here's the more economical version of the CQD, which they're calling the "CQD type E" ("E" must stand for "Economy";)):

They look pretty interesting, and if they're as well made as my Hornet II, I'll definitely be getting them!

I think the original Yojimbo looks much more refined - it was a Snody design originally (in conjunction with Janich.)

That CQD-E looks great. I have 3 of the original series and at their new price, it looks liike a bargain, depending on the specs, of course. This may finally be THE knife to recommend when people ask "What should I give someone heading for a combat zone?"

That's pretty cool, I have an original Yojimbo that I really like. I might have to pick one of those up someday. I'm glad somebody's making a new version- the Yojimbo is a great SD/ EDC piece for folks living in areas with blade length restrictions. A major difference between the Blackhawk and Spyderco versions is that the Blackhawk uses a liner lock, and the Spyderco has the (superior) compression lock.

I had a Yojimbo and sold it for $210 dollars!!! I then went to homedepot and bought a Husky razor box cutter knife , now I can use my knife and I pocketed $205 dollars!!! For a user the black Yojimbo, or even a blue model is just to damn collectable to EDC!!!

Hi Daniel,

Sorry, but I beg to differ. The Yojimbo was a Michael Janich design and he went to Mike Snody to have the prototype made. Mike Snody was so impressed with the design that he designed his own version for another company.

I just got one of the original and it is awesome but the price is steep for the average serviceman. At this price (probably $70 or so retail) they'll probably get snatched up. It's really a purpose designed and tested tool for military personell, not someone's idea of what is good. I just don't like the huge "Blackhawk!" logo and the fact that it is probably made somewhere overseas (though I could understand Japan and could even stand Taiwan; I wouldn't stand for a ChiCom blade:mad:), the uncoated push button reeks of cost cutting too. Alas, these are just cosmetic and political issues, the first of which will be solved by shipping it off for coating or a shot of Krylon or rustoleum (this will be a beater for me).

Looks like I may finally own a Blackhawk product. The wharnie looks promising enough that I may even put both of my blue Yojimbos away for a spell. Wish they'd give some specs like steel and blade length though.

I own a blackhawk pack pack and it is good for what it is but it is definitely not top of the line. It is a ruggedized piece of luggage with lots of handy pockets and a excellent grab handle which makes it a great bag for the car or bus etc but lousy if you have to carry it one your back all day. I see it more for a civilian who wants a bit thicker nylon and zippers etc but certainly not a real assault pack. The same can probably be said for the knives.
They give people the style they want at a lower price point. For myself I would much much prefer the Spyderco version but then I am willing to pay a premium for it.

I would be more into their version of the Ronin(fixed version of the Yojimbo) because the lack of moving parts makes it much easier to produce for a chinese or other off shore factory. I think they call it the Kallista?

This is not a knock at their products but they are what they are. I would much rather have a used Spyderco though.

I used a blackhawk scarf thingee in my halloween costume and quading in bad weather and boy it is a great item. My suicide bomber costume got me a lot of attention this year as well.

I've got a Be-Wharned and I'm rather fond of it. I've also got a Yojimbo -- and though I love it -- wouldn't use it in anything other than an emergency (why I carry it).

The Be-Wharned is good insofar as it's a well-made tactical wharncliffe at a low pricepoint. The ergonomics are good on it. It isn't as rock-solid-extension-of-hand as the yojimbo is -- but I actually find it easier to deploy (flicks out better). The lock is fine.

I'd be willing to pay a premium for it in a better steel, though. The blade comes from the factory with a great edge on it -- but Aus-8 doesn't hold it as long as the up-market steels.

I got two of the original MOD CQD Mark 1's, and a Blackhawk CQD Mark 1 Type E due here on thursday.....I'll do a review and comparison when I get my Type E.....until then, snatch up the MOD CQD Mark 1's while you can, as they have been discontinued.

Any thoughts on the Crucible 2 and Pointman? I'm rather fond of those designs to say the least.

The Be-Wharned (grrr) looks like it would be quite cumbersome for pocket carry. And hey, they stole my name I had for a design of mine. DAMN IT!

Eh... I still want to own a Yojimbo (if I can ever find one I can afford) but these don't do a thing for me.
