You Can't Not Have A BK1 Brute

This thread is a shameless push to help get the BK1 back into production.

I just got my latest Becker - a Camillus NIB BK1 Brute. :D:D:D Here it is, side by side with a BK2 for footprint comparison. I had seen pics of them, but never with something to readily show the size properly. This is one sweet knife. :D:D

I met with a buddy of mine for lunch today who, until today, had never even heard of Becker knives. All he has is a Buck 112, an old wore out machete on his ranch and a chain saw. He started asking about some brand of knife I am unfamiliar with, (Diamond something or other). I told him I had never heard of them, but he ought to check out the Becker line, that they were less expensive (he had quoted a price) and would probably hold up better as well. I told him about the BK1 I had in the car and that I'd show it to him when we were done eating.

Well, we went out to the car, I took it out of the box and handed it to him and asked him how the handle felt. The first words out of his mouth were "Shxx, I want one of these. What's it called again?"

I explained that Camillus was no longer in business and that Kabar was making the Becker knives now, but that the BK1 was not one of the ones being produced. (He has Cutco kitchen knives and really likes them. He was surprised to find out that Cutco and Kabar are owned by the same folks.)

His response was, "Well, they oughtta be making these. I love it. How much for it?"

Needless to say, he went back to work sans BK1. I steered him towards getting a BK2, BK9 and BK4 for his first Becker knife purchases for his ranch work and a BK16/17 for deer processing work. He has a 8K+ acre farm/ranch and leases the hunting out to 18-20 guys from Houston each year (at $2k apiece - he can afford a few Beckers :D )

So today I got a great new piece of steel and turned a friend onto Beckers. Not a bad day in Wayne's World of Knives. :)

I know everyone uses the phrase for the 9, I think the 1 really ought to have it engraved on each one when Kabar starts making them again (I hope, I Hope.)

YOU CAN'T NOT HAVE A BK1 BRUTE. :D :D

Part of the reason they aren't bringing them back is because they don't chop as well as the BK9/4. They are bringing back another awesome beast of a becker though...

I still like it though. It's well balanced and as for chopping?? well, that's what I have a 9 for. Worst case, the 1 can assume the role of an absolutely awesome "short gladius".

And what, pray tell, is this mythological awesome beast of which you speak?

Sadly, no. I really really want a BK6 but it sounds like that one isn't coming back anytime soon. I've read that the RBK will be coming back but .25" thick. Won't be until probably 2015 though. Not the slightest clue what coolness Ka-Bar is gonna roll out in the meantime.

I don't care...the Brute is just so damn...desirable. Plus, if it isn't so great, why is it number one?

The only way to better a 1 is with a 0. 0 is ALWAYS the first number in counting in any number base system, Base2, Base8, Base10, Base16 they all start with ZERO. :D ( I am an old bit twiddler refugee from the high-tech world.) I wonder what the features of a BK0 would be?

I would like to have one just because they look cool and are rare, but everythign I have seen/read leads me to believe they lack in performance. Mr. Becker himself said that the BK9 was an evolution in knife design and as a result was a superior performer. He said that in an old thread on these forums. But like I said, if I could find one at a good price I would pick it up in a heartbeat!!

I was able to find that quote from Mr. Becker from a very old thread that was comparing the BK9 to the BK1:

", If i had to make this choice it would be the BK9 The BK9 has a lot better balance, is lighter weight, has a quieter sheath and is much less expensive. I like to think that the Becker line has gotten better as it has matured (kinda like Becker himself.....PLEASE hold the laughter). Maybe Evolved would be a better way to put it. The 9 really is the first big becker after I actually started listening to Jerry Fisk's knives instead of Jerry...Jerry's blades are even more eloquent than the national living treasure himself ! [I may not be there yet Brother ,and, I may never catch up, but I am Working on it.]"

I sold my Brute a while back, just decided to let someone else play with one for a while.

But I have missed it from the day it left. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

But don't wait under water!

I owned the 9, the 4, and the 1,

I like the 9 and the 4, but I'd put Brutus up against any of them in a chopping contest.

Another fine feature of the Brute, is the wide part of the spine, great for batoning.

The 9 is easier to carry though. And makes a better camp knife due to the lack of recurve

Long live Brutus

Surely the BK-0 is the handle.

Or more perhaps correctly, a BK-0 is the unfortunate dude with NO Beckers!

Help me out? RBK???? A google search resulted w/ info on a "river bottom knife" bowie and companion knife. They look great but not Beckers... i lika the .25 steel... please tell me more!

I think "rbk" refers to the Rheinhart-Becker Kukri.

There's a pic somewhere in the forum. Can't search well on my phone or I'd link to it.

Ahhh, thx Bigghoss. I have seen it before, never knew the name. Something to look forward to I guess.
