I'd think about 40 minutes south of there, it was taken at Haceta Head.

 

I don't think so, I think it's just a clearing. Honestly, I can't say for sure though, as it was my first time up there and we were pretty much in the clouds with breaks here and there for views.

I have seen some people ski in some pretty crazy places out there though. In the pic below, it was a good 5 mile hike up to the lake, and to my surprise there were people actually hiking up the pass on the right and skiing down.

 

Somehow I don't envision this example stripping electrical cable and scraping corrosion off an ancient underground part!!
