Your Favorite Apple Cutting Knife

I eat apples whole, seeds and all. But I bring a custom Dave Loukides petty knife with me when I want to slice anything. He pretty much makes the best food-prep knives you can buy.

An SAK. Never found a better knife for peeling apples.

Spyderco military is the king of folding knife food prep.

I eat apples whole, seeds and all.

Apple seeds contain a substance that converts to cyanide in the intestines. I dont recommend eating them. If you insist though, just dont chew them since it greatly increases cyanide production.

My Phil Wilson South Fork is best at that(and everything else). For production knives, I'd suggest a Spyderco with a full flat grind.

I've used a Sebenza for ~278 apples. Works pretty well.

A super thin flat ground paring knife works even better though.

Ka-bar Zombie Killer War Sword!

Hey, there might be a zombie worm hiding in that apple.

Hmmm, maybe I should shoot it first.... :p

I use my Gayle Bradley on an apple every day at work. Works great; just have to remember to clean it off well afterward!

My old favorite was a Cold Steel Safe Keeper I. It would half, quarter, and eigth apples as good as any pocket knife I have. Technique was critical though, and I didn't peel them.

My son and I are crazy for apples and we usually have to eat one before bed each night so Ive ended up cutting the with about everything I've owned, or at least have EDC'd. I guess the best one Ive used is the BM 530 (now sold :() I've been looking for a general purpose "slicer" EDC lately, just got my hands on a BM Nagara I was hoping might do the trick.

I still miss that 530, but it was a little to slim for me. Slims a good thing sometimes but I tend to be what my ad called heavy handed and everyone else calls clumsy and thats not a good combination with a fine blade like the 530.

The only time I cut apples is if I'm cooking or if I'm cutting one to give to my bird, so I use an old german Henckles paring knife.

Buck 110 or 112 if I'm feeling discrete. You simply can't beat it for that sort of task, though there are a few slipjoints that come close.

I have lots to choose from, but for apples the best of the best is definitely my Spyderco Caly 3.5.

Maybe. I bought a Tojiri Flash paring knife, but didn't like the thin and narrow handle much.

On another note, a $16 Mora Flex should serve the task well in a fixed blade. The blade is thin and the handles are fat and grippy. Probably not good for peeling, but I usually just eat the skin.

I just turned an apple into about 30 pieces for a salad with my sage 2. It sliced through extremely well with its full flat grind. Better than pretty much anything I've used except my fixed carbon opinel.
