What's your favorite back pocket traditional?

"Back Pocket" knives tend to be larger knives that ride better in the back pocket better than the front due to their size. Having a thin profile usually makes it more desirable.

Mine at the moment is the Northwoods Madison Barlow. I carry it a lot more than I thought I would. It's thin and feels great in hand. It's fun to open and close; such a great walk and talk.

No photos of my own. I am not much of a picture taker. But here is a pleasing photo I borrowed from woods trekker's blog.

The Opinel 10 us my favourite large work knife. Light and nimble yet with a nearly 4" blade, is capable of very demanding work. With excellent ergonomics, easy opening and large handle, it is my go to blade in extreme cold as well when hands are either in thick gloves or dexterity is limited with the cold.

All for under $25

When I carry a knife in my back pocket it is usually a Case Trapper (6254) or Case Large Stockman (6375), or sometimes a Case Stockman (6347). I don't often carry in my back pocket, but when I do it has been one of those three most of the time.

My Opinel or SAK Camper rides in the back right pocket with my lighter. There's either one or the other, but always one of em. They're my heavy use knives, for the abusive and perilous cuts that come up.

I don't keep a knife in my back pocket. It is a pain in the a**.

That's why a slim knife is preferred. Try one of these. Slimmer than most wallets. I don't even notice it. The knife fits in the sheath all the way.

What's the closed length of the pictured knife?

A couple more that I like are the AG Russell Cowboy(top) and Rancher. Cowboy has a 3 5/8" blade and Rancher has a 3" blade. Very slim profile and affordable at sub $50

Frank & Cliff, I'm in your same boat. Just got a CV Sodbuster yesterday, and I'm really liking it for back pocket carry.

Otherwise, my back pocket typically holds one of these, vertically next to a bandana.

The Big Jack regularly ends up in my back pocket as I don't mind If it turns horizontal back there.
