The last thread on this was 11 years ago, so I think it is okay to ask again.

I only have one hawk now, the Hudson Bay hawk from Cold Steel. It is a competent tool at camp, but it takes some re-profiling to get it to perform. At 1-3/4 lb, it's a little heavy for backpacking, but not too bad.

I only have one, a Cold Steel Pipe Hawk. I like it alot! Its a good size and weight, and cuts and pounds pretty well. I have had others before, like a SOG fasthawk, but it just couldnt chop well. Fun thrower though.

I have a CS Rifleman hawk, Norse hawk, viking hand axe and a spike hawk.

The rifleman is heavy. The Norse Hawk much lighter.

The Spike Hawk pretty much a fighting tool, not a utility piece.

I think the Pipehawk looks the best from a weight and size standpoint.

I’ve got some pretty neat ones. For a semi-traditional style I like my Vec Hawks. Aesthetically Winkler makes some cool ones with wood handles and full tangs. And it’s awful hard to break an RMJ Shrike or Loggerhead.

Interestingly, it is the same weight as the Hudson Bay, just different geometry. If I didn't have the HB, I would probably have the Pipe.
I like it, though I reprofiled mine too. It isnt the same way it came from the box. When new, it was dull and had awful paint on it, and a terrible handle fit. After working on it, it cleaned up nicely. I have never thought it was too heavy, just too long to carry on my belt sometimes.

Well you can buy a spare handle and cut it down to whatever you please. Better yet, grab a stick from the wood pile and shape it. I wonder how mine would do on a 14" handle.

Depending on desired weight I'd have to opt for something ranging between my Rinaldi Milano, Calabria, or Sicilia pattern axes.
Love those styles.

I have two 'hawks, both Cold Steel: The original Plainsman's hawk (think Rifleman's with the hammer poll cut off flush) and the little Trail hawk. I like them both, but I crave the Rinaldi axes from FortyTwoBlades FortyTwoBlades 👍🪓
