Your most disappointing knife purchase

Just bought a knife and it needs to go back to the manufacturer for warranty work I was so excited to get it! What knife have you bought that came out of the box needing warranty work? This isn't a blast the manufacturer thread so please don't make it such.

My knife was sitting on a shelf for 4 years. Lube was dry so upon cleaning it the old dry & sticky lube and reassembling, the blade has horizontal and vertical play. Back it goes.

similarly happened, years ago in a online purchasing from manufacture website. But even worse that after returning to manufacturer, the new delivered one even worse, then I went to the physical shop about 100KM away to get it resolved.
Another case is when the first time I bought a knife in a physical store, haven't had any experience before, when I went back home, I found it looks like a used one (the store said not). Then I delivered it to manufacturer and asked to check if it's a used or brand new one, the manufacture deliver it back to me by fixing the problem and just said "it's a easy fix". Didn't mention it's new or not.

In my most recent purchasing, find some problems after unboxing, but the dealer well handled the problem.

Hope the good luck with you next time

Not really “disappointing” so much as “not-as-fun-as-expected.” The Cold Steel War Hawk. For a one-handed axe, it wasn’t as agile as I assumed. It is head heavy though so it delivers plenty of power. Solid axe for the money, but it made me realize I’m more of a kukri fellow than an axe fellow.

Olamic Rainmaker. Acid Rain holes looked unfinished. Blade couldn't be centered. Pretty sure blade wasn't straight. I just sent it back to where I bought it from for a refund. After seeing the poor QC on that knife it turned me off.

I'm one of those rare people who seems to have never gotten a lemon from any higher end production knife company. Short of some soft screws stripping out all of my knives in the 100+ price range have all came to me without issue, usually always centered as well with no fit and finish issues.
But when it comes to cheapo knives, ones without a stellar reputation, I have had some junk, but I can't really count them as dissapointments because I never expected anything great from them to begin with. Mostly I will just throw a cheap knife in with my actual purchase to round up the price to a nice round number. For example when I bought my Hogue EX-01 I threw a couple of Hultafors and Mora knives into my basket to try and round the price off to £250. Then I noticed it was say £12 short so I threw in a cheap Walther knife as well, because why not it comes in a nice box and looks like a good letter opener. It was a Walther MPK, and is hands down the worst knife I have ever had the displeasure of not using. I say not using because when I attempted to use it, the blade swung back on itself, and now has a 360 degree range of motion. The pivot pin broke, so I shoved a stainless pin through it and peened it over. Wasted 10 mins doing that, and now I have a knife that can almost be closed in 2 directions.
The biggest piece of junk i've ever seen in my life, oh and ontop of that, it has the worst heat treated 440C i've ever seen, the box it came in is nicer than the knife, it came with a little nylon case as well, which again is worth more than the knife itself.

An Emerson Gentleman Jim. The liners were pathetic, flashing everywhere and they were scratched all to hell. I called the dealer and they were fine with me having disassembled it, so back it went. That was the last Emerson I bought, and I sold the rest. It wasn’t my first issue with EKI, but that was too much to overlook.

Emerson 7 with the thin liner lock. I had a custom with the liner lock 4 times as thick. I say make them all with the thick liner lock.

When was this? Emerson's QC was in a real rough spot for a while but in the last few years there's been a noticeable improvement in fit and finish.
