Your Thoughts on TRC Knives

Opinions welcome. I don't know much about this company and their knives. Their designs appeal to me and their materials (other than sheathes) seem high quality. Nothing against kydex. They're all made by hand? Looking at the K-1S, but +$300 for a smaller fixed blade seems high to me. Is there enough aesthetics, material and value in these knives to warrant the price?

thanks

They have high quality materials.
They have high standards.
They are consistent.
Their fit and finish is flawless.
They are high quality and you know what you're getting.

All that being said... they are jack of all trades.
Not the toughest.
Not the most stain resistant.
Not the best edge edge retention.
Not the easiest to sharpen (especially in the field).

They are well rounded knives and I can't imagine there being much knife users that won't be satisfied with one.

All this being said - Yes, I think they are far too expensive.
There, I said it.

Is it worth it?
That depends on you, personally. We are all different.

I see them kinda like a Rockstead that's actually meant to be used, except some people still won't, just because it's so expensive.

To us, all steel looks and feels the same to touch, we can't taste it or really experience it in detail. They all cut the same, and we won't even see much of performance difference unless using steels that are a lot different, and there's plenty of impressive steels today, and we all know we can get by with just older steels too, but that's not why are we here, we are here for latest and greatest and to make further improvements.

Just give yourself an honest answer of why you want it and is it worth it to you?
Will you still be happy with it after spending that much?
Do you want it just because of looks and materials?
Do you need it?
Is this just an impulse that will go away if you ignore it for a week?
If you do buy it, how long will that excitement last?

I don't have one and did condsider it but don't want Elmax in a larger hard use knife, but they do look nice. My personal favourite steels for such being 14c28n and Aeb-L for SS and Cpm3v and sleipner TS and 5160, W2 and 80crv2 CS.

With postage here in the UK you are looking at $400-500+.

They are a young knife company, the owner claimed he "learner everything from YouTube"
That information came from TRC Knives.
I think they're off to a great start, I own the speed demon in apocalypse finish as well as classic freedom and south pole both uncoated
I sold off the apocalypse in green micarta uncoated for over 400, they're in high demand

But even a knife company that starts off great can lose their way
My policy normally is to let the company age a bit before purchasing, in order to get a feel for their QC habits
So far they're great
Sold out everywhere

Their knives look very attractive to me. But the price is on the high side. Personally I am reluctant to pay the price of less-known / newer brands the same as well-established / more popular brands.

Outside of Carothers its the only fixed blade company I mess with anymore. The "This is freedom" is the best EDC fixed blade i've ever used from any company. Perfect fit and finish, if it was an American company they would be 10x more popular. Their M390 is the best I've ever used. Highly recommend, they lose a bit in resale buy you won't lose your ass if its not for you.

Let's hope they don't turn into schrade, gerber, sog, cold steel, microtech

Let's hope they don't sell to China

SO FAR
rock solid
I use and abuse the TRC I have
No complaints

They're great knives, and for the price you would be hard pressed to find equal fit and finish. Not a millimeter of each of their knives doesn't have some sort of work done to it.

My South Pole is the sharpest knife I've ever had too, and that's amongst all the Winkler, RMJ, Busse, Spyderco's etc etc that' I've owned over the years.

They're not cheap, but they're premium steel, with a ton of man hours behind each and every one. You wont be disapointed.
