It's not often that a newer knife company comes along to veer me away from my destiny with Spyderco and two other knife companies that I've been obsessed with for quite some time. But this past weekend I got my latest issue of "KNIVE ILLUSTRATED" magazine. On the front cover was a "Zieba model MS3" which really intrigued me. It reminded me so much of one of my all time favorite EDC pocketknives and that was the Benchmade models 640 & 650 Boguszewski Spike models. The Zieba MS3 actually seems to be kind of a high tech version of the Old Boguszewski Spike model. Not to mention it has a CNC machined, titanium handle and is availble in M390 ( one of my very favorite blade steels) >> Or Nitro V.

I'm just wondering if any of you guys have had any experience with "Zieba Knives" or ever owned or used one? This is the first time one of their knives caught my attention. Any information would be helpful. The price tag is a bit lofty but if it's a reputable company and a quality item that hasn't stopped me in the past. They look like a serious contender in the high end pocket knife market to me. But what do you all have to say?

I own it’s cousin the MS2. The one I have seems to be a well built knife. Blade is excellent and flipping action is good.

Just be aware that it is quite a small knife and if I were to try and put any sideways force on the blade it feels like it could easily break. It’s designed to be a little office suit special basically.

Yeah I did notice that the Zieba MS3 model did have a relatively small blade for my uses ( 2.5 inches long) >> And most of my personal usage I like something at least 3.5 inches long minimum. With the older Benchmade models 640 & 650 Boguszewski Spikes you could get those models in 3.5 and 4.25 respectively and I had both at one time.

But I'm hoping that Zieba Knives will do a bigger/longer versioin of this model MS3 at some point. But I'm like you I immediately noticed with all the write up I seen in "Knives Illustrated" magazine did indicate that this is truly a borderline "custom grade" folder. IF Spyderco would just bring back their older C-50 Centofante this wouldn't be up for discussion because I would go that route with new blade steel and hopefully newer handle materials as well. But Sal Glesser told me over a year ago that they used that tooling for something else and it no longer exists to make more of the C-50 model. And I wasn't the only one that was sad to hear that either.

But it is good to know that Zieba does make a good unit. And thank you for your reply.

Let’s just say I am a much bigger fan of his earlier designs vs his newer ones.

Zeiba is a custom maker, not a knife company. Sole authorship, except for collaborations. The MS3 is very much like the Spike, but the Spike is wider and more like a paring knife, where the MS3 is a shiv :) but a small one.

I have two Ziebas an S1 mini and the Knight collaboration, S5 mini. They are great knives and a great value. I bought them directly from Mike at shows. Their blade shapes and grinds are not standard, but they cut. My S1 mini has a gold plated spacer and copper washed slabs and looks great, even the wear pattern on the copper looks neat. My S5 mini will get engraved when I get the guts to commit.

Mike is a nice guy as well. Gives great post-sale service.

I have only bought customs from the same maker twice, and Zeiba is one.

Zieba is doing some great work. Every knife I had from him has been well put together. My favorite was the S3. Felt almost like an XM-18 on bearings.

I don't normally like this style of knife but the G2 was also very well designed. Detent was a bit hard for a front flipper but the quality was there.
