zirconium oxide x porcelain

I believe Zirconium Oxide is a Crystalline Ceramic, and Porcelain is a Non-Crystalline Ceramic. So Platelet vs. Granular micro-form-expression. It's the difference between a pearl and a milk-glass bead basically. Hard to say what the property difference would be. Except that I think Zirconium Oxide would be a lot harder then Porcelain. How tough it is would depend on how it is bonded (if it is resin cast, pressure formed etc.)

Ceramics used to be metal oxides but today many things are included. I'm not sure porcelain should be included in things other than kitchen tiles or dishes. Zirconium is a fused material as is porcelain. Kyocera makes the best knives.Porcelain is crystalline as is zirconia. Zirconium is similar to titanium and has also used in the body.

True Porcelains are fired at temperatures in excess of 2500°F which causes them to become vitreous. The base material(s) may be crystalline but finished Porcelain is not. It's granular. However it can be given a crystalline glaze of the same material (glazed on at significantly lower temperatures).
