Does anyone have any experience with the Zombie Tools knives? I like all the short sword stuff. Does anyone know of another company who makes similar products?

I don't own any, but it's hard to go wrong with 1/4 5160 spring steel (the stuff Zombie Tools are made from)

Busse makes quite a few items along those lines. They tend to look a bit... prettier? maybe? Less like an apocalyptic weapon, I guess. But they've got everything from a very deadly trench knife, to huge chopper knives, and even a Japanese style sword.

This is a crazy coincidence, I was just googling the stuff. I found some good reviews, the negative ones were all from people who had never owned one and were just not fans of the zombie stuff.

If anyone owns one, would be cool to know how the edge holds up and how the grinds are.

The guys at the shop did a Noss-style demo test of one of their swords. Cut through a car hood (long ways, mind you. All the way through.) and a cinder block, among other stuff. It seemed to hold up pretty well. I'd imagine the ZTs would handle abuse about as well as an HI blade.

Get a mace. Forget knives, and swords too, for that matter. Knives and swords would suck against zombies. Axes would be OK, but maces would be better

I don't know... The idea might be to destroy the brain to kill it, but decapitation renders the body harmless just as well. A severed head won't go far, after all.

I do not own Zombie Tools products. However, it appears for all the world to me like some real for sure "knife guys" teamed up with some video gamer/fantasy type guys to form this company. The video guys seem to come up with the themes and the kooky names and the fantasy marketing stuff. It appears to me that they let the knife guys deal with the steel, the geometry and the actual blade designs. So dispite the weird blood splatter finishes and whatnot, the blades are made of very tough steel, seem to have a decent heat treat and a decent geomtery. Their kukri like object is a very faithful adaptation of the traditional kukri in terms of the blade geometry.

Serious knife guys will never take them seriously and I can understand that. However, it does seem like they have some serious knife guys actually working with the steel (whether in house or outsourced I could not say).

Not that I can ever take the zombie thing seriously, but just as a thought exercise...it would really depend on a couple of things, one, whether the brain needed to be totally destroyed and two, how many there are. The mace is better at absolute destruction of the brain, but is really heavy after a while. Also takes much longer to recover. A heavy-ish sword is lighter and faster, and won't wear you down as quickly. Also there would be less...splash...with the sword.

As to Zombie tools...they look cool. An acquaintance of mine bought a kukri-like thing from them, and we were both less than impressed by the balance and cutting abilities. YMMV.

Alright, this topic may go past where it was intended but its all good. Steve Liley of Coal Creek Forge has made me a "Spike Cane". It's 35" of skull bashing badness. No frills, light weight.
