ZT 0393 owners, how do you like it?

Hey guys/gals,

How do you like your ZT 0393? Do you like the G10 overlay over titanium for the handle, and does it feel less "premium" to you? It seems that the titanium handle is thinner due to the G10 overlay, it seems like the thickness of the lock makes it more of a liner lock instead, is it still a strong lock? Thanks.

Love mine.. It has become my main EDC! The overlays are comfortable and add grip.
The lock up is equal or better then any folding knife I own, including my lockbacks.

Lateck,

I like mine a lot, a few random thoughts:
- I like blue knives, so I am happy with the color
- The G10 feels nice, it has good texturing, the G10 itself feels more like the smoother kind, the machining on top gives it the grip
- The lock feels plenty sturdy, but yes I would classify it somewhere between a liner lock and a frame lock (Maybe bolster lock?) it works no problem in any case and I have no worries there
- Ergos are excellent
- It feels like great value for the money, it has 20CV steel, part DLC, some G10 and Titanium with ano, so it's far from the most "basic construction" so there went design work and production work and care into it for a fair price (in my opinion)
If you like the color combo get one, if you don't like the color combo look for the bronze sprint run, if you don't like either color combo it's still a great knife.

also in before TheFactor TheFactor comes gushing over his :p:D

Just got mine today, it's impressive, yes I like it. Yes, I like the G10 overlay, the G10 secures the knife in my hand without fear of it slipping out. No, it does not feel less of a premium knife. IMO, it is considered a liner lock because it does not meet the definition of a frame lock. It's the first liner lock I've owned with a steel insert. It's just as strong as any liner lock I own.

I really like the 0393 - Rick knows how a knife should feel in your hand, this design is no exception.

I like the g10 overlay - interesting design choice and the G10 feels great - not so raspy as to make it hard to pull from your pocket, but still "grippy" enough to use in a gloved hand.

It is a frame lock and a strong one at that. No worries.

Who needs lunch money when you can have knives?

Damn you mqqn mqqn , whenever I see an 0392 I tell myself I don't need another one, yet still keep looking at some 0392BLKs that are still available here and wonder "should I get one to mod" (IE get rid of at least part of the DLC and some different hardware...) but do I want triplets ? (admittedly one is a bowie, so technically I just have one 0392..)

I love mine. A useable 392 design with G10 overlays is very nice. One side benefit to the design is that you don't have the issue with keeping pressure off the lockbar, since the G10 overlay covers it. As a result, it's a no fail ZT flipper!

It’s so nice to see so many feel the exact same way as I do and be so happy with this Home run 0393

Love mine! One nice thing is it’s lighter than the 0392. Another is it flips way better than a genuine eklipse.

I would say it’s the best version out of all the 0392/eklipse variant knives.

These are exactly the reasons preventing me from pulling the trigger on 0393.

Anybody got a picture of the lockbar? Maybe compared to a ZT framelock, from a 392 or 562.

That picture gave me a boner. /s

I have been looking at a lot of ZT knives, like the 0562CF, which is also a good option. This is only going to be my second knife, I really hope I don't go any deeper than this...

Here it is next to a 0562. The Lockbar is plenty strong. I had the same concerns when it was first announced, but the more I looked at it, the more I felt this was the 2018 model for me. And it was justified. This knife turned out great. I think the G10 overlay is a plus on this model in terms of look and feel. The Titanium frame is plenty thick enough for you to know you have titanium in your hand. It is most definitely still a framelock. If you are worried about a less "premium" feel, worry not. This knife has all the refinement of a modern ZT. In fact I think it might be one of the most refined of any ZT while still giving you that tank confidence.

Two thing to note. It does have that kind of blue anodize that turns purplish with hand oils. Not as much as I've seen on other knives. Not a huge issue if you wipe it down or even like the purple. And a small nitpick is that the clip does ride on the g10 scale so its a bit grippier on the pocket than just titanium.

I suppose it's apples and oranges, but I've been weighing the purchase of the 0393BRZ (S35VN) or the yet-to-be-released Reate Torrents. The new Reate (with RWL34) is another $100+ more, so maybe it's not a fair fight in terms of F&F or action. I also considered the Reate Mini Horizon D (M390 and another $100 bump).

So, as I was weighing my options, exercising patience, being prudent, TheFactor TheFactor posted images of his 0393 and I threw my hands up in surrender. Timing is everything.

I think you will be very very Happy!!

TheFactor TheFactor - Wanted to update regarding adding Hinderer bronze hardware on the ZT0393BRZ. I ordered an extra bronze ano clip and tab which appears more brass than anything. Also ordered the bronze ano Hinderer pivot, which appears more copper than anything.:thumbsdown: The knife itself seems great! Scales are a true bronze and the detent is strong. Very solid overall.

Just wanted to spare someone the Return/Exchange procedure if they were thinking along similar lines as me. Appreciate your contribution to this thread!

I am very impressed with the new 393. When you get behind the scales you see a lot. ZT really over built the hardware on this knife. While their are differences in weight, handles and ti thickness. ZT went more above and beyond on this one with the pivot, spacers and even the bearing track seems more overbuilt.

Both are amazing knives that are well worth their price points!
