Hello,

Im new to knives and decided to get something good as i needed something reliable for my volunteering (SES in Australia)
So I purchased a ZT 0562 and the price was quite good. When I saw it in my hands it looked and felt like the real thing. Smooth opening, the titanium part is non magnetic and it had all the right letters for model and serial number.
The seller had bought a few from a store that went bankrupt from a liquidated auction and he was sure they are original.

Ive been trying to look online for high quality photos but couldn't find anything.

Ive taken a few close ups of mine and i would appreciate if you could compare to yours.
A few things to note that I'm skeptical is:

- The stopper, mine is rounded top while some say the real are machines and tapered.
- The main bolt that holds the blade. On mine you can see a triangular pattern of machining. From original its smooth?
- The groove under the pocket clip. The fake has a better CNC finish than the original.
- Locking mechanism seems to have a bit of a "ladder" detent around the circumference

Things to pay attention:
- The screws protrude over the body, so its not flush
- The 6 half cycles at the pocket clip, if you compare right and left side, they aren't perfectly the same diameters
- The pillar on the body (3 of them) are slightly different to the pillar that holds the pocket clip in place

Please see below and if you can point anything wrong let me know. If you need any clearer/closer photo also let me know. Cause if its fake I will then return the knife for refund.

Hey mate, that definitely looks like a fake. Did you buy this from Jamess2895 on eBay AU? he is selling a lot of fake ZT's passing them off as authentic, and you should report him to eBay. He probably imports fakes from China and sells it as 'authentic' in Australia.

Return it right away.

Dead giveaways:
-bad laser etching of ZT logo
-bladestops' mill work is off
-pivot screw very rough and unfinished
-standoffs size differencs

Bad news is since he lives close to me, I paid in cash.... so I'm stuffed i guess?
Should i pretend i want to buy another so he meets me at my work again then ask for a refund? Or send him a message asking for a refund straight away (which gives him running away power)?

Yeah does make it a bit complicated since you paid cash. Message the seller first and send him this thread if you want, it seems like he has taken down the ZT0562 listing. If he won't refund you, then message eBay and see if they can help you.

Well if i point out as fake he will more than likely run. I should have taken a photo of his drivers license. What ill have to do is pretend Ill buy another and pick up at his home address. Then request a refund once i have his address.
Is this a matter of getting police involved? For my safety at least?

Im impressed on the quality that chinese are going to copy things.

I did search for his eBay to see if there was anything about scammers or fake, but seems like there was nothing. We need to put his name up. He also has 200 sales and all 100% feedback. Which isn't helping on buyers knowing they are fakes.

I'd ask for his number and his address, if he runs, at least you have his info should you ever want to file a police report or something.

Good luck man.

There are differences that are hard to see at first. I had my 0562 out while looking at the pics. At first i was like yea its real but a second look has me suspect. Zt logo is not straight. Standoffs are not the same size. Metal finishes are off

Wow I thought it seemed legit. That's kinda scary considering that the 562 is a pretty popular and common knife. I would have just chalked the finish differences to a bad day at the factory because I have had a few legit ZTs that had less perfect finishes.

The first thing I noticed was the box serial # doesn't match the knife serial #..

I took my 562 out to compare and I can name something that's different in every picture. Big time fake.

..

Thanks everyone that compared to their knive. I'll see if I can return it. Incredible the detail that people go to fake things. It's such a shame. It feels so solid.

Im in Sydney Northern Beaches. Yeah i will try to return. But something tells me people that do this will avoid return. The only contact details i have is his mobile number and his email address to his business as he sent me a catalogue of the other items he sells.

I don't think i can send an email/pm as i only signed up last night here.

That knife sells for 29.00 dollars from China, just saw the exact same knife on the Chinese website. It's marked Elmax, but the steel is list as: Blade Material:9CR18MOV.
Or, if it's really a Ti handle and not steel plated with Ti, like the above says it is, it could be 59.85 from China. Both shipped free.
They even have the cloned ZT 0392, for less than 70. In fact looks like they clone all of ZT's line.

Since he gave me a brochure I have the following information. He gives 5 years warranty to zt knives. But see photos. I also have his banking detail in case I have to escalate past phone conversations.

So the seller has said he will refund if I'm not happy. Will try and get it back today.

But I think this post is very useful for anyone that wants to find out if theirs have the flaws of a fake one. Hope if helps someone else to not participate on helping fakes get sold.

Bottom line, if you're buying a new, higher end knife: Always buy from an authorized dealer. If you're getting a $200 knife for $60, run away!
