ZT 0609 vs. ZT 0562

I’m trying to decide between a RJ Martin designed 0609 or a Rick Hinderer designed 0562, both in 20CV. I’m leaning towards the 0609 because it’s lighter and has a thinner blade stock but I’ve also heard a lot of good things about the 0562. Which one is more slicey (I’m assuming the 0609 but could be wrong)? Which one has better flipping action? Anyone that has experience with both please help. Thank you

I can tell you that the 0562CF is amazing.
Bear in mind, it's a slicer model.
She cuts and slices so very well too.
One of my all time favorites.
As far as flipping, they're both ZT.

Which one will fit your hand better??
The 0609 is smaller in size, the 562 is definitely beefier

Agreed with the above responses. They are both great flippers, the main difference being the size (and style of course). The 0562 has the advantage of being a bigger, heavier-duty knife and a terrific slicer. I haven’t really used my 609s yet but they are more like a 0450....much more compact, slim and kind of like the 0450. If you’re looking for a safe queen, 0609 all the way, if you’re actually going to use the knife for cutting, slicing then I’d get the 0562.
Btw....I have 3 562s and only one of them (orange/black) has kind of a weak detent. My 562 and 562blk both snap open with authority as do my 609s.

I’ve said a few times that the 0562 is my “if I could only have one” folder, but it’s also true that I have both and the 0609 is the knife that bumped my 0562 to “second most carried”.

Don’t believe the declarations that the 0609 is a gentleman’s folder or pocket jewelry. I use mine a LOT, on cardboard, plastic, flex straps, zip ties, etc. It’s surprisingly hand filling, has no wasted handle, has a lot of blade and cutting edge for the size, and has .12” stock (vs the 0562 at .16”). It’s simply a fantastic cutting tool.

It’s exactly what it needs to be. Incredibly space and weight efficient, and highly effective. I have pretty big hands, and this thing works in them as easily as it works in my lady’s tiny hands.

ZT 0562cf has a slicer grind but I dont think its a better slicer than ZT 0609. I am planning to pick up a ZT 0609 as I feel it has the perfect size, weight, thickness, and blade/handle ratio for EDC.

With that being said, anyone who is interest in the ZT brand should at least try ZT 0562 or 0562cf.

My 0562 had a "slicer" grind, but the stock was still thicker than I prefer behind the edge. Would have taken dramatic reprofiling and a pretty wide secondary bevel to get it where I'd like it.

I haven't had a 0609, but I've had a 0450 and an 0450CF and even though they're small knives, both were thicker than a bowl of oatmeal at the edge. Very frustrating considering how much I like the designs.

I haven't found a ZT that I'd consider a slicer.

The 0609 will cure all your ZT ails.
.12 blade stock with a wider blade than the 0450.
It's a cutting machine.

After Jason Bosman got thru with my 0562CF M390, she was a great slicer.
And, I have Millies in 52100,204P,S90V,S30V,Cruwear.
Yeah, the 0562CF, slices just fine imo

The 0609 is slightly thinner you are correct ... and that may give it a slight edge in "Sliceyness" (not a word I know) ...

but for me it's not close ... would be the 0562 everyday all day ... you can get it to cut great and it feels much better to my hand by far ... now that is personal opinion ...

for others that may be different ... but if you like one better than the other I would chose that way neither as the thinnest blades ... yet both can be made to cut very well.

Are you using your knives for food prep? I don’t use mine for food, so the context may be different. I’ve taken my 0609 to work many times. I find that it cuts cardboard, plastic, zip ties, and flex straps easily.

Honestly, I would avoid buying the 609 until they release the tool required for the pivot. I wouldn’t want to buy a knife to have the pivot start backing out and not be able to tighten it.

Then you have to decide if you want to pay another 30$ or whatever they will charge for the required tool.

On paper the 0609 makes more sense as a EDC to me (lighter, smaller, better slicer), but I carry the 0562 more often because it's just such a great knife. I've had two of each and in both cases the 0562 was the better flipper, probably because of the weight of the blade. You really can't go wrong with either... Go with the size that you want.

Thank you all for the help:thumbsup: I’ll probably end up with both:) but for now I think I’m going with the 0609!

I would go 0609 all day!! It’s thin and awesome!! Little different than typical ZT overbuilt folder. Sometimes less is more man.

Rarely. Mostly scoring/stripping cable, open parts bags, cutting heat shrink, cutting e tape. Unjamming the label printer. You know, the tasks that requires the thinnest of grinds and Vanax 37. So no, I don't have an actual need, but knifing isn't about actual need or we'd all carry a RAT 2. I just like 'em thin!

Now the best thing is when you have to cut a ton of shrink wrap off of some giant gear that comes in.

"I've got this Kyle"

No, I insist.

0562 for sure. It has been my EDC for many years now and even in my smaller hands is a perfect fit. It's Hefty and has been put through the wringer. Even though I've moved up into higher-end knives this will always be my first love.
