ZT 550 vs 551. What's the difference?

I confused about the difference between these two knives. The only place I found a picture and specs on both is at knifecenter.com. The only differences that I notice are the markings on the handle and blade, and that the 551 is listed as being limited to 1000 pieces.

What am I missing? Even the price is the same.

0551 have Elmax blades and the 0550 will have Vanax (35?) blades.

The 0551 has a different blade steel(Elmax) from the 0550(S35VN) and the g10 on it is a different pattern... The Elmax steel is very nice and I consider it better than S30v in edge retention.

What are you missing? Well, right off the bat you missed the various threads about the differences. The places you are getting details from is incorrect. Do a search on the forums for 0551, you will see the multiple threads.

I ran a search with criteria "zt 551" and a search with criteria "zt 550 551" before posting this question. Not sure how I missed what you found in your search. At any rate my question was answered promptly and accurately by the good folks at BF.

0551 have Elmax blades and the 0550 will have Vanax (35?) blades.

Blade steel on the ZT 0550 was changed from Vanax 35 to CPM S35VN a couple weeks back. Problems is getting the Vanax 35 while S35VN was readily available. This is a significant change as Vanax 35 is a nitrogen steel and S35VN is not.
