ZT0450 CF or Ti ?

Cf cuz it's lighter to carry and the black and venom green look cooler!

I'm in the same quagmire. Want to pick up a 0562CF and one of the 0450's. I prefer the CF, but don't like black blades. Thinking about splurging for the 0450CFZDP189 to get the CF with a satin blade, plus limited releases tend to hold their value, in case one doesn't like it

I like the TI version. The black DLC just looks terrible if you actually use your knives.

This may be the way to go I would like to try this steel.

I like them both, honestly. The CF version feels a bit off balance since the CF scale is a lot lighter than the framelock titanium side, but the black titanium scale on the 0450CF has more grip to it, whatever coating is on the titanium. The normal 0450 feels a little more elegant and substantial. Can't go wrong with either one honestly.

Unless you are really abusing the knife, it'd be difficult to produce actual wear/scratching on DLC. Most of the time it's other materials that are getting rubbed off onto the coating.

That said, I have the Ti version and don't really have plans to get a CF (though I already have the 0452CF)

You have four choices. Two with all titanium and two with CF on presentation side. I wish Zero Tolerance would make a 0450 with CF and S35VN but no DLC which should sell for around $170. If you can swing it the Limited Run ZDP model 0450CFZDP is the one to get. 0450SIG is an exclusive run for SIG Arms.

Top to bottom:

  • 0450 (S35VN, TI, $160)
  • 0450CF (S35VN, CF, Black DLC, $180)
  • 0450SIG (S35VN, TI, Gray DLC, $217)
  • 0450CFZDP (ZDP-189, CF, $240)

I didn't realize there was a Sig exclusive all black version, that's nice. I'm pretty sure there are some after market CF scales if you want to swap the ti scale on the regular 0450. That could really up the total cost though.

Could probably buy two knives and swap the factory scales. For not much more than the cost of a custom scale, you'd have another complete knife, which you're free to sell or keep.

Adding a CF scale to a standard 0450 will increase the price by $50-$100. Even at the low end of $50 you're talking about a tally of $210 ($160+$50). For an extra $30 get the 0450CFZDP for $240. However, 0450CFZDP is a limited run, not that many dealers have it anymore and it won't last long.

Every DLC ZT I have had gets noticeable wear (either scratches or shiny spots) to the DLC anytime it was used. Was just saying the stonewashed looks better over time IMO.

If weight matters to you, get the cf. I carried a ZT0450CF all summer because during the summer I wear shorts 99% of the time. I like to carry the lightest knife possible. Side note: that SIG version looks nice!

I've had both I liked the CF version but if I got another it would be a mixed match, satin blade with CF scale and green standoffs 👍

No one can tell you which is "better" because it all comes down to personal preference.

I own many knives in all Ti and w/CF scales. I like them all but some better than others. I just depends . . . 🤷‍♂️

As for the 0450, I don't own any because it's too small for me but I own 5 variations of the 0452 (which is similar, just larger) and I prefer the CF versions that I have to the all Ti but that doesn't mean that these preferences would apply to you or anyone else.

That said, from a practical perspective, the all Ti version should be easier to slide in/out of a pocket and easier to (keep) clean than would a CF version. The wt difference is negligible IMO.

But, then again, the CF version always looks more attractive to me than the all Ti version as it applies to the 0452 but that doesn't apply to other all Ti brands/models that I own where I prefer all Ti to CF.

Like I said, it just depends . . . 🤷‍♂️
